Re: What time control(s) does your League use?
Northants League & County Champs tc = 35 moves in 75 mins +15 mins rest. Utterly butterly how much frowning and bewilderment this causes when a player has to add 15 mins, and that's just the mechanical (analog?) clocks. Digital timepieces are regarded as scary and evil. I once tentatively mooted the...

No too. A thread which is dedicated to abnormality would be most refreshing.Mike Truran wrote:No, may normality not soon return! Am I the only one who has had quite enough of 'normality' on the forum over the last few months?

Re: Compulsory Membership?
... or the secretary or treasurer can pretend to be each player in turn and use the website himself or herself. Glad to see this, I was going to ask about it. Since the majority of our members would be unable/unwilling/too worried about using a computer/the internet to do their own memberships it s...

Re: Compulsory Membership?
This could not happen. Either the event is graded, or it isn't - that's the only way to organise your championship and be fair to all the competitors. But surely that's down to the club and not the ECF (you?) to decide? I haven't said otherwise, just expressed my personal opinion. Are you really in...

Re: Compulsory Membership?
Or pay the £13 ECF membership on his behalf from the club subs that he pays? After all, he doesn't get the benefit of playing in league teams that others get. Well, his club subs would not cover it, as we run rather well on minimal fees and a small balance, effectively only taking money from membe...

Yes he currently pays the annual fee as all others do, though we are considering waiving it for him due to the circumstances. He has already said that he's disinclined to pay for ECF membership as he doesn't have any involvement in chess other than our club and one internal tournament, plus he does...

Re: Compulsory Membership?
Please excuse the 'post from nowhere', but I couldn't decide where to place this and didn't think it merited a new thread: Is it the case that any player participating in a game intended for grading must pay membership or fee even if they do not have or wish to have a grade ... OR Can an ungraded pl...

Re: Problem Integrity
Lo again, and thanks for all the replies. Yes John I refer to the practice test you identified, Q's 16 & 17, and have given full explanations of my queries in emails. Please advise if you wish me to resend. Regarding the problem discussed (Q17) my objection regards the use of the word 'control' in t...

Problem Integrity
Hello all: back on the 19th July I completed a practice CoM test and found reason to dispute the accuracy/correctness of 2 of the 20 problems. I raised this matter, and though I received prompt communication at the time the assurance of further investigation and reply has not been satisfied. This is...

Re: Local Chess to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
I know that this is an old thread, but when looking for a local club I'd suggest simply searching for <town> + 'chess' + 'club'. Rather obvious I know, but probably the simplest. Sadly not all clubs are moving with the times and ensuring an online presence, but will probably have their details displ...
