Re: Bridge not a Sport (ECJ now agree)

Makes sense to me that ECJ now agree. As for the future we will not be able to go to the ECJ. Hoping to get Mike to play a simul soon. As for VAT break on football there are a number of home matches that you have to book to qualify. I'm always up for a game of extreme chess (played on a mountain). H...

Re: County Championship Consultation

I'm getting an error message but have now got it. I'll mention it at our match tomorrow. Only 30 years experience but then again I'm only a 55 yo puppy with a senior moment or two, & just about got over some lets say unpleasantness at a county match that has been subject on this forum & action by my...

Re: FIDE Offer to Federations to purchase clocks at a highy reduced rate

If our club can get this offer we will take it. ECF to be commended even with the short notice. I have thought that the current prices are very high.
Unfortunately for Nick Faulks if he is playing against Kingston tomorrow we are on analogue clocks.

Re: Gold Member Rep.

It may be a sad state of affairs but really is this direct membership going to add any more value. A play lots of league chess, county chess, and odd congress. The only reason for having to take a Gold was for fide rating and many tournaments are, as well as playing in 4NCL. I may renew on Friday or...

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

There appears to be a lot of negative here when it looks to me that the organisers have done an excellent job in the circumstances. Quite honestly there is a planned movement of previous conference sites away from Hammersmith bearing in mind very large expansion to the East of London. There is a pla...

Re: Peter Hornsby for ECF : Tomorrow's Candidate Today!

Lawrence my comment starting particularly was to pick up this type of item - many do a lot, particularly Malcolm, as do you and many others. As long as Council do not vote none of the above on those seeking re-election that is fine by me. I will not be looking for live coverage of the 14th Oct meeti...

Re: Random musing - scoresheet design

If playing a Surrey League game you could record the 2 offers from the away player and the one accepted at the start of the game. Would help with possible dispute at the time control. Or record "would you like a drink"? I think I last used it in a scorebook in the mid 70s when I was playing for my s...

Re: Peter Hornsby for ECF : Tomorrow's Candidate Today!

I believe it is fantastic that ECF directors, officers and representatives play chess regularly as well as the thousands of hours devoted to organisation each year. Particularly those that run team, clubs, leagues, congresses, unions, organisations and represent direct membership, as well as grade o...

Re: Peter Hornsby for ECF : Tomorrow's Candidate Today!

Ok perhaps my reaction was a little over the top and this is just a bun fight for a ned position when perhaps ECF could want more than one. Either way it would be nice if Peter can expand on what he can do for us. Or answer questions. Generally I would expect anyone standing for election would play ...

Re: Media comments on chess

Sunday afternoon watching "come dine with me". Susie is a glamour model and columnist. And a fitness fanatic. Chicken breasts with goats cheese, baked potatoes and vegetables followed by a banoffee treat. Susie throws a few of the others off their game by revealing she is a chess player and even has...

Re: Peter Hornsby for ECF : Tomorrow's Candidate Today!

It looks like a North v South battle coming up. There are a lot of universities and young people in the South that play chess so the question it poses the question what has he done for them that will add value to this position. There are an awful lot of universities in the south. Not sure why he wan...

Get a bike, bus, tube, taxi or rickshaw. Tube is likely to be quickest if the line is running on that day.

I would not mind personally if Angus or any of the member reps had our Gold membership vote.
I'm not even sure what category I will be and will probably sign up in a few weeks.

Re: ECF Grading Database website URL links

Some players have lots of clubs so you may have to pick up those that have it as 5 or 6th on list etc. I suspect you can put several queries together. The point is you play in the same league as my club so have to have registration for the league in advance. We have notified SCCA of our multi-club p...

Re: Who may J'adoube ?

Stop clock and call the arbiter. Who makes decision normally by looking at the move recorded on the scoresheet. I'm pretty sure most players and arbiters have not got good enough eye sight to judge whether 52/48%. After Brexit perhaps ECF ought to go it's own way and leave Fide? Or is that too much ...
