Re: Chess in Newspapers

Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster Today is the only local newspaper serving RBKC and Westminster.
A new monthly freebie. It has a chess column.

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

the fees are expensive, with lack of top players it does not even seem worth watching, the likely average age overall, the percentage of females too.
seems very male dominated with focus on a Victorian seaside jolly. hopefully nobody ends up in fawlty towers.

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

Thanks jack. size is not everything. best wishes. will it be the lowest average rating in the championship for 30 years?

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

Is this going to be the lowest entry since the 70s. something wrong in lack of sponsorship and lack of conditions for titled players. torquay has been expensive for years.

Re: Candidates 2019

Cricket World Cup is variable. Rain is likely to effect the last 3 weeks.
16 players double rounds all play alls. once every 4 years is my preference.

Re: Old Chestnut

5% in the last 10 years.2% in the previous 20, and nil % in my first 15 years. This is improvement. We could do better. I spend time encouraging parents of juniors. many are adults now and it is nice to know how they are doing whether they are still playing or not. There are female volunteers in che...

Re: Old Chestnut

I am all for equal opportunity. This is where I agree with my county policy on county chess matches. I find that females want to be considered on their merits as players. if they are available they will play. Can I say I believe that are not disproportionally reluctant to give up a Saturday to play ...

Re: Semi finals 2019

A lovely report by owen from surrey. It should be a good final v Yorks. And Manchester will be competitive in the future. As for my accumulator on 0 teams in finals from Lancs I lost. I was not expecting match defaults but perhaps holidays, cricket, women's world cup, or D-day meant chess players no...

Re: National Stages 2019

Michael most of the best matches go either way and why not publish as chess is exciting at all levels. No ill feelings on my part to you, only some gentle ribbing on this site. So 2 more to come in for my accumulator. Not aware of a shirt prize - not encouraging the other half of the population. Now...

Re: National Stages 2019

I was not even commenting on a game of chess dispute a long time ago so why are you raising it again Andrew?

you ought to take up your complaints with the Surrey board with them directly. I have seen nobody from the Surrey board posting such matters against you.

Re: National Stages 2019

another selective comment taken out of context. I really think you miss my points on the county championship. i'm hoping lancs get no teams to the final stages this year. what is competing about = i'm fully supportive of the minor counties - it has a nice balance - and have a winners 'oscar' from la...
