Re: Steve Berry

I'm sure our club mates will not mind me posting these details. Stephen's funeral will be 10am on Friday 25th January, Putney Vale Crematorium with remembrance drinks/snacks afterwards at the Crooked Billet pub just off Wimbledon Common between 11am and 2pm (snacks from midday). John and I will be a...

Re: How Many Times ?

Perhaps they knew how noisy it was going to be in that small room? 12 boards but 4 empty. The arbiters did well to relocate us once some other boards had finished. It was nice to eat lunch & have a coffee. As it was a junior team I'm not sure how the manager did not inform the control team. Isn't it...

Re: Chess & Bridge Withdraw Ray Keene's Book from Sale

Maybe because someone wants more money? I think it is buyer beware on chess books. They can run their business as they like. At the last weekend it was very difficult having the bookstall right outside a playing area.

Let's get back to this good division. I may be playing Neil Graham?
There will be a number of forumites playing too.
Enjoy our chess this weekend. :D :D :D
And thank those that make it special too.

Re: Div 4 South 2018/19

In round 1 the triangle was Camb Uni 3 v West is Best 4 v CSC 3. Some defaults so Camb Uni were not playing round 2 I was not aware of the round 2 triangle. Anyway if another team pull out or come in by Friday night then there ought to be a change. It makes a world of difference if they turn out or ...

Re: Prize Money is Out of Control

Geoff I think you ought to approach local sponsors for your local pet chess projects first. Good luck with that.
On large sponsorships it is for others.
I do not think the coalface is appropriate or that prize money is relevant to grassroots chess in this country.

Re: Repercussions / Fallout from FIDE Elections?

Why would he want to play for England. He could get nobbled with a nerve agent. He will probably not be allowed in.
I doubt whether ECF or clubs will be able to pay him to make it worth his while.
Yes a hero but is not a great career move is it?

Re: Hastings

Still it takes some real dedication for those still playing and organising on New Years Eve.
It's a long walk from Hastings to Eastbourne but Nick F seems to have a geographical weakness.
We ought to forgive him.
Happy New Year soon all!

Re: Hastings

That pairing seems odd.
But it is nice to see Jinwoo Song playing. I last saw him at London Chess Classic in 2017. It will be good to have a meal with him & his Korean team when he comes back to New Malden.

Best wishes to all forumites playing.

Re: British Championship Congress 2019

Plenty of hotels, B&Bs, uni & college rooms, caravans & camping as well as boats.
Possibility of Brexit issues & who knows whether they will have the staff in the summer.
Enjoy - I have NIL chance of my partner wanting our holiday to be spent with me playing any chess,

Re: Need some help of what to do?

It is the season of goodwill. And Andrew I also value your efforts as Controller. I was a bit worried by the Surrey references as that has to be our Board. That I sat in the same room as Bill at last years finals was fine. Enough about that. I think I posted something similar this time last year. Pe...

Re: Need some help of what to do?

John you have my sympathy. I doubt that ECF or Council want to address. I think that the attitude is not furthering the cause of chess in the North nor the ECF. Also seems basis of some is far ranging & not helpful historic (& possibly inaccurate geographic background), I'm not sure why my old dispu...
