Re: Blackburne and the endgame

I think he would have been more than good enough to work it out. In my short chess career (45 years) I have reached this ending twice. Once with a lone king when I drew (my opponent had 15 minutes in a tournament to win) and once when I won (most of the moves on a 30 second increment). Most of which...

Re: Preliminary & Quarter Final Results

There was a hold up on sets and boards. Late running in Cornwall too for arriving with these and also became apparent that Cornwall would default my board 16 as no clearance for a 6 year old or his father (or any of the Cornwall spectators). I was offered an ECF rated game but did not get one. I was...

Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election?

When is the election? Sounds like a lot of voters to convince & will they all vote?

Re: Longueurs at tournaments

Go for a walk? Important to relax. Even in city venues. Hampstead is nice. Plenty of choices.

Re: Media comments on chess

Wasn't it Chess + Balls = Snooker (kingpin magazine)? Thus Snooker minus balls = Chess? It is looking like the Swansea v Southampton game is heading towards a draw which is no good for either team. No suggestion on the commentary that this is chess.

Re: Division Four (South) 2017-18

On the issue on where Iceni1 & 2 play next season is it the case that 2 points are relevant? The numbers from 2 going into 3S & the numbers from 3S that may not want to go into 2 in 18/19. Probably why it is at by 31 May scenario. A great battle with 11/12 teams having a chance at the beginning of t...

Re: Division Two 2017-18

Ian I think that means that Iceni1 may also go up next season to 3S but not Iceni2. Not sure whether you have an option of both Iceni's going into 3North. Anyway a great battle in 4S this season. Which ought to be on 4S part but it is these type of rules that make it a bit more unclear than the foot...

Re: Media comments on chess

I have been a local government officer since 1984 so I'm very aware of the processes. Most London Councils have 60-70 elected members. So not strictly comparable with General election where there may well be 1 elected member & may cover an area of say 2 Councils. What I really do not understand is w...

Re: Media comments on chess

I will also point out that Simon and John have their election agents but Mike's election agent is himself.
As I'm not in Mike's ward I cannot vote for him or Simon. But expect Simon will get more votes than Mike.

Re: Media comments on chess

It is nice that there is some interest in Kingston Council elections tomorrow. I'm in Coombe Vale Ward and surprised to see ex-Kingston player John Grant standing. He has not mentioned it to me. As it is one of the 2 safest Conservative wards I expect 3 conservatives (one of which is a cabinet membe...

Re: ECF Finance meeting 2018

I appreciate the debate. As for Gold membership Ben and Roger have explained their intentions and is absolutely fine by me. As for the other fee increase debate, I think it is important that over 10 years moving away from the bureaucracy of the tax on chess being passed on to unions, leagues, congre...

Re: County Championship Consultation

Having just answered an e-mail from captain on this year's competition at National Stages and neutral venue, I was wondering when Osfordshire disappeared as a County - does anyone know?

Re: GDPR : What are the implications for LMS systems ?

I think ECF & some systems, and clubs are going OTT on this. Basically, I'm going for' removal of my e-mail address removal of birth year/and dob, removal of my home address and old home address (I'm shocked on chess leaflets coming in the post there) removal of my phone numbers. Clubs and tournamen...
