Re: Post Brexit Openings

(a) I'm staying in London. I suspect Brexit in 2 years time. I think 29th March 2019 is unachievable. A democratic decision has been made and the PM at the time has resigned. There were a lot of Londoners in the remain camp. (b) For me not at all. Foreign bank transfers up to Foreigners. My tax retu...

Re: FIDE account closed

The BBC report is accurate which was the original post. I'm not interested in the infighting nor the implication that the treasurer is crying wolf. Thanks.

Re: FIDE account closed

Roger - I'm not sure why referring back to this same thread. The USB bank account has not been unfrozen.

Re: FIDE account closed

Alex thanks for the quick clarification. I believe the ECF have a good handle on this, especially you.

The idea that Federations should continue to pay into a frozen Swiss bank account is really one for them.

USB will have considered the matter before making their decision.

Re: Post Brexit Openings

I agree with Richard and Justin on Scandinavian. Basically the 2...Nf6 variations that transpose into Icelandic Gambit or Portuguese Variation are banned but transposition into Caro-Kann Panov seem Ok. Scotch plus Gambit, Welsh and irish seem fine by me. Though I have no idea what some of them are. ...

Re: FIDE account closed

I lot of this analysis ignores that the UBS account is frozen (multi-millions). I'm not particularly interested in all the elections etc. UK banks will not be able to open an account for fide (it is in the law and diligence process - they can hardly miss it can they)? Why should ECF continue to pay ...

Re: New Grade/Age Categories

Some of us are very interested in the top players on the list for all. Gives lots of opportunities in the UK? Has there ever been a 300+? And London Chess Classic and Grand Tour here too - so well done those that organise these events, and get the players in. Quite happy for a top-100 ENG. Would not...

Re: New Grade/Age Categories

Info is great. I believe the numbers have fallen in the last 20-15-10-5 years, even if the number of half-games are up. Congratulations to those attracting international players to play chess in this country, as well as those attracting players to their clubs, leagues, tournaments, unions, counties ...

Re: National Chess Day

I'm very loved up. She has said I've had a lovely Valentine's day. And I have let her have my desert because I said I had bought 2 for her and none for me. It is clear that some couples are playing chess tonight. 1st April may be best. Or the day set for County Finals or 1st Saturday of the British ...

Re: GDPR : What are the implications for LMS systems ?

Try not to mix the phrases up John with their context. I worked for a Council that was the leading light on tendering services for 20 years, spent a lot of time on governance arrangements and constitution and implementing EU directives. Childrens' Services too. I'm very much in favour of the suggest...

Post Brexit Openings

I have some lovely meal going but time for a little light relief on openings once we leave Europe. We ought not to play the french, the dutch, the italian game, polish, icelandic, russian, latvian...... I'm happy for the Spanish except the Berlin. After all that was about the time of when we had som...

Re: GDPR : What are the implications for LMS systems ?

I'm fully aware of data protection and also Childrens' Services legislation, and a whole lot more. I must admit when those looking at data protection cannot understand that the records they are looking for may well be manual files it astounds me. I have Police and Criminal Evidence Act training as w...

Re: New Grade/Age Categories

Ok Brian - the 1997-98 SCCU bulletin as enough issues with National Grading list and a leaver in the BCF office. So what is the first list after that we can go back to. The archives from RJH are on the new SCCU site. So I'm Ok for some research and being reminded of RJH's sarcasm and humour on BCF a...

Re: Team Board Orders & Grades

I cannot recall when we tied Martin Cath up in knots with the 10 point rule, but it was some time ago. Anyway, one of my first ones after was with a captain that has departed - I have been up all night with the kids, I have had a stressful day at work, I'm playing on bottom board or not at all, ok w...
