Re: Media comments on chess

My better half was very impressed by the behaviour of the young chess players on the One Show shaking hands. Well done CSC.
It is a shame that this does not happen in every game of chess.
She has been speaking about the programme and we have agreed to a game of Chess on saturday!!!! :o

Gdpr since May ought to stop all this.

Re: Illegal Castling into Legal Castling.

The rules - written by idiots - driven by morons? Standard play 2 minute penalty & then loss is fine. County chess etc I ought to add be published by organisers whether arbiter present or not - make an interesting addition to league chess, club chess. We will then get down to lists of the worst offe...

Re: County Chess 2018-19

As Surrey won the Minor for the first time ever can we defend our title if our open team qualify for national stages but our u180S/U160S do not.?

Re: ECF AGM 2018

I think that the counting was poor but as one was Michael Farthing (seeming not to manage a list) I spent a lovely morning having my flu jab. More than 600 in a few hours. Listing I knew in 9.06 - 9.30 slot & about 80 in - as is a book in process. So basic colours on lists etc & not only that but wa...

Re: Surrey Chess Congress October 26-28

On Scarborough.

I may be a bit hazy on my history as I was a pup back then but the Surrey Congresses in the 1980s at Sutton had more prize money lots more sections & higher numbers. With 7 games in a Easter weekend. Oh those 70s/80s chess organizers you were brilliant (some still are).

Re: ECF Council: Issues within Paper C29.12, Challenges for English Chess (in particular,The Development Manager)

It sounds to me that Micha?el Farthing ought to change his name to Mick Cash a union leader getting paid more than the PM & holding the commuters & other travellers to ransom. Those that are attending. Or is Michael now Hurricane Michael 2018. I'll save the weather issues up for other posts. Anyway ...

Re: Is a mutual flag fall a draw?

Some people may get a bit wrapped up in rules. Not sure of your reasoning not to call your own flag fall if you actually noticed
You lose either way in my opinion.
You have got it right.

Re: Ecf Silver member letter

I agree with Paul on 4. It is the same argument using on schools funding - we get 0.4 percent per pupil extra in 2019/20 & therefore some schools will not be able to pay for pay rises or other cost increases (work together on collaborative savings). I am not expecting that there is any good news in ...

Re: Chess Names in Robert Ludlum Novels

Back to 'Funeral in Berlin' the book. The chapter headings contain quotes from the rules of chess. I doubt the dialogue is in the book as it is one-person narrative from a spy. The film has Justin's quote from Stok then Harry's response Watching these films - it is best watching Ipcress file, Funera...

At least with the low number of teams those getting promoted will be the best in 3N.

Enjoy whether it snows or not.

Re: Ecf Silver member letter

Nick dinosaurs cannot speak. Way before right & wrong became human concepts. God 1 - 0 Man (Genesis). What I'm taking exception to are any 'old farts' (Will Carling captaining his country) on Council that are holding back English Chess. Others may just be 'grumpy old men'. There appear to be far mor...

Re: Ecf Silver member letter

Nexus is old news & John Is not standing for election. The Nexus was the Star Trek movie with 2 captains of the Enterprise & great villain. Too many dinosaurs making comments. But then again I was not aware that Michael is a member of the Governance Committee. And I think I'm up to doing a bit of co...

Re: Ecf Silver member letter

Thanks. I did not get a chance to ask Roger Emerson on 1st October as his game was one of the last to finish. I'm impressed with Tim too but then again he has put his points across & I would not want to seem biased against the North. I'm not sure where the anti-CSC is coming from. Yes I play for the...

Re: Touch Move question

Clumsiness with pieces happens with adults too. Any reason not to give a warning - tell them to be more careful & if it happens again - explain what the consequences are. Junior tournaments are very difficult so you can end up with lots of complaints. My experience is some younger players pick up th...
