Re: Equitable distribution of team strengths within leagues

Cahill wants to talk to Southgate about his international future. Still wants to play on Saturday. I reckon that he has a chance of being captain. All the spurs players were rubbish except Trippier and he was injured. May as well give the Burnley goalie a game too. Play Pickford up front. And scores...

Re: Who is our next Adams?

There are lots of talented 13-16 year olds so do not give up on them. Nor too much pressure. There is a keen 6 yo Cornish champion - unfortunately not registered to play for the minor counties quarterfinal - my default win. I had the pleasure of playing a young lady from Essex in the U180s this seas...

Re: ECF grand prix

Wait until the next month update. I also thought new prizes for league/club chess. So hopefully those will still be there. I'm not saying my grade is artificially low. It is what it is when we get the July/revised August update.

Re: County Championship Finals

Mark - in short I believe the obligation on all of us was to suggest moving the Open out onto the landing. You could have decided to make it one of the other sections. It was oppressive in the control room too. The playing conditions in our area were fine. Thanking you and all of your team for the d...

Re: County Championship Finals

Many of us were at the venue 90 minutes before the start. We should have agreed with the team to move 16 tables/sets onto the landing for one of the matches. I'm surprised that the captains could not have agreed it. It was obvious it was getting worse. I had heat exhaustion, dehydration and high blo...

Re: Should the FIDE voting system be reformed and if so how?

FIDE Keep OFOV but every 4 years change. Also half of the voting members must be women and the other half men. The top half of the organisations in terms of highest player on FIDE lists for year zero have to be a female member.

Re: County Championship sponsorship

Any external funding ought to be for the final only and for the venue and providing excellent conditions and free food, tea/coffees and water. if unions and counties wish to contribute to ECF that is fine too. No prize money please. It has been bad enough over the last few years in getting an oppone...

Re: Equitable distribution of team strengths within leagues

Wins 9% ITV about 60% BBC. I'm a bit biased on Cahill. Not least my partner was looking after the Cahill's dog for two weeks in the run up to end of Chelsea's season and FA Cup win over the red side of Manchester. Quite clear that probably a clash with 3pm KO on County Finals day. Alex ought to have...

Re: Director of Women's Chess

Any governing body without misconduct rules and procedures deserves any grief it gets. Or bad press.

There are really good reasons for not just having these rules against officials.

We also have enough problems about the rules/laws and ethics regarding chess and competitions.

Re: Director of Women's Chess

If she is an ECF member she ought to be charged with misconduct & bring the game into dispute whoever she is. Personally I didn't like the Casual Chess wine bar comments about safe environment for a friendly game of chess. Going off topic at 1-1 Shakira to her husband is saying - my hips don't lie, ...

Re: Cheating in chess

I may be off topic but I have enough exemptions to be followed out of rooms & then be accused of cheating. My diabetes means more toilet breaks than I will like. Asthma means sometimes leaving to have a puff. Frequently I see juniors leave to have chats with parents & their computers are left on. Th...

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

The London Chess Classic is a festival for all. Not just elite GM. Plenty of choices & some great work with the young too.

Combine it with a Christmas break with all that is great in this part of the world.

Re: British championship grading sections in the main event

I think say once every 20 years in London would be fair. Then again I work in London in an environment where we have a big issue workwise in funding for education. Current & future proposals are likely to distribute too much up north per pupil than they need at expense of country. Either way each ye...

Re: County Championship Finals

Thanks Phil. It may have to wait until I retire from work. Ankle quite swollen from too big a step from new trains to the platform. Where I really will like to be is able to get all the tables and chairs up for matches rather than just volunteer for making tea & coffee. At 55 I'm quite young in term...
