Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

At the moment we have 7 - Aronian, Nakamura, Wang Hao, Vitiugov, Howell Carlsen and Alekseenko look likely to join them, Caruana looks likely to lead with 7.5 If David wins, then wins for Caruana & Carlsen wouldn't matter; however he'll have black and it will be a big ask whoever he plays I'd love ...

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

I wonder if Howell v Grischuk might be the game to watch today (give or take Nakamura v Aronian). It's probably not realistic to expect that everybody on 6 will take risks to try and get themselves in with a chance on Monday, but Grischuk may well be one of them, no? It certainly looks like the boa...

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

A win for Naka tomorrow and a draw on Monday should clinch it even if Caruana wins the tournament. Or am I missing something? Two wins for Anton might be a problem for him (however unlikely that is). That doesn't actually contradict what I wrote because if Anton and Hikaru win in round 10 they will...

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

Antón gets his draw against Aronian so we have four tied in the lead with 6.5/9 overnight (those two plus the two Americans) unless either Vitiugov or Wang Hao can beat the other. David Howell has beaten Kasimdzhanov to get to 6. There should be at least fourteen players on that score or above. Vit...

Re: FIDE Website

Back to the topic, some of my requests do seem to have been implemented, although I still wish that they would stop using the live site as their development environment. Do you know if it was intentional to stop showing an unrated player's part rating calculations? Whilst it's possible to do those ...

After Luke's frustration v. Caruana, if you have unsated appetite for further wall-banging, take a look at Arkell - Kashlinskaya. Similar frustration
Knowing Keith he's just getting started :)

The AGM papers, in particular the Director's report suggest that the ECF has appointed a development officer. The mystery remains as to why the appointment remains secret.
Presumably so The ECF eNewsletter October 2019 could break the news.

Re: FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019 - Isle of Man

Where it's claimed, is any rationale given? Sutovsky's just claimed it on FB but no rationale given. "A handful of top players skipped - that does not change much. It is still by far the strongest Swiss ever." The FIDE Grand Prix events in 2016-17 which were eighteen players swisses may have had a ...

Re: World Cup Knockout 2019

So that's Radjabov into the Candidates, an impressive comeback for him. I'd forgetten he was still quite so young. Given Ding seems quite likely to qualify for Yekaterinburg on rating, a win for Yu in the semi-final tie-break could likely mean two Chinese players in the Candidates. Though on curren...

Which player scored 264 pts in 2016/17 including 24 goals and 11 assists but will score 0pts this season (still selected by 0.5% of managers)?
Alexis? I remember him being very good back then and the assists make me think him rather than Lukaku.

Re: Would You Pay Extra to Win Prize Money?

I came across a 1 day rapidplay entry form today with a single Open section that offered 2 levels of entry fee: 1. £19 - eligible to win prize money 2. £6 - ineligible for prize money 1st prize is £130; amount of 2nd and 3rd prizes dependent on entries; additional prizes dependent on entries. Assum...

Yu through, but not altogether smoothly!
