Re: 4ncl Congress Entry Conditions Change

I'm sure it's a fun sport if you're good enough to do it. Re: Kidlington, the top section was capped (at 210 ecf I think) which incidentally created more competitive sections for the majority at the expense of the elite. Kidlington was Under 225 when I used to play, Cherniaev being one entry that I...

Re: Grand Chess Tour St Louis Rapid & Blitz

So Nakamura qualifies for London and MVL, Karjakin & So in the other qualifying places with one tournament to go. Aronian & Mamedyarov the only two with any realistic hopes to gatecrash the top four places. I would not be anything like so categorical. Have you taken account of there being more Gran...

Re: Grand Chess Tour St Louis Rapid & Blitz

As we head into the blitz part everyone now expects Naka to win this event comfortably. Clearly what we have also seen is further evidence, despite a great start, that Caruana h...

Re: Batumi Olympiad

The teams are out . USA are the top seeds in the Open section which is the first time since the break up of the Soviet Union and clearly are heavy favourites to defend their title. Carlsen not playing but Anand back after a break of over 10 years. England are 8th seeds , Ireland 65th Scotland 68th ...

We already have many outstanding role models among our female players
No doubt, but it would be nice if more women players were able to name them.

Re: Director of Women's Chess

I tried making the British Ladies' open and importing foreign women title holders so that a norm was possible. This was not all that successful. It has been very difficult to popularise women's chess in England. We need role models. We already have many outstanding role models among our female play...

There are times when I think people have no conception at all about what is required in organizing a chess event.
