it may take a little longer if he had to pay for it
Yes, I was really worried we would be out of lockdown and have to invite people - and have a reception!!!

As for the unpopular English GM - that has stumped me. I thought our "top" 3 "young" players were all very affable and popular.
They are.

Re: Interesting finish to a game

I am not sure how to insert a position, so hopefully someone can help me out. I have just played a 3 minute game, we had the following position (I was Black) White a2 b3 g3 h3 Kg2 Rf2 Nb6 Qa7 Black b4 d6 e7 f7 g6 h5 Kg7 Rc8 Qd5 Nf3 The game finished Nh4+ Kh2 Nf3 Kg2 Nh4+ Kh2 Nf3+ Kg2 and a draw by ...

Re: European Online Chess Club Cup 2021

I didn't see it mentioned in the reports above but Gawain Jones won board 4 silver and David Howell board 2 bronze. Where is that information to be found? Later: found it now on Europe Echecs, but nothing on official ECU website or anywhere else. Very late info, but I'll do my best to have it added...

Re: Laws of Chess - changes

Can we assume there was no increment? If there wasn't an increment, why wasn't the player with the Rook able to invoke 10.2 or one of its successors before the flag fell? Maybe like me (in a 1999 North Staffs League match poised at 2-2) he totally forgot about the clock whilst trying to win the pos...

Re: Proposed reorganisation

One possible problematic issue for the one off 32 team format - what to do about the rule in relation to minimum junior/female/male players? (assuming it isn’t scrapped for one season only). Their solution is to require teams to have players from at least two of these categories: men, women, juniors.

Re: European Online Chess Club Cup 2021

Perhaps also worth noting that Gawain waited until Sasikiran offered a draw before punting the trick. Still it is slightly strange that Sasikiran felt he needed to premove given the circumstances. My sympathy for Sasikiran is somewhat tempered by the fact that I am sure he'd do exactly the same giv...

Re: European Online Chess Club Cup 2021

More like smart thinking by Gawain, who as a very experienced blitz player surely knows all the tricks. With Bd7 v Ph4 and the square h3 unguarded Sasikiran played Bd7-c8?? as a premove, allowing 1... h3 2 Bc8 (premove) h2. Easily missed. It's just an online variant of the old postal trick where Bl...

Roger Well done! I assume this is the first outdoor event submitted for rating. Are there any examples of outdoor events having been submitted for grading in recent years? I was going to say this one: https://ratings.fide.com/tournament_information.phtml?event=165481 but then I remembered we played...
