Re: World Youth Championships

I think it would be quite easy to make up an account on chess.com with any name you like.

Re: World Youth Championships

Regardless of what I think about Declan (I have not ever met him) I think the burden of proof is on the chess authorities to prove that he is cheating, rather than Declan having to prove he is not, (innocent until proven guilty and all that.) Furthermore of course it is not enough for "gut instinct"...

Re: Cheating in chess

It's a bit late to wonder whether anyone would bother to use a computer to cheat in a league match, since there has been at least one establihed case in London. If nothing else, cheaters need to hone their special skills by practice. I recall a point being made a few years ago by a local official t...

Re: Cheating in chess

The WDCL has a rule that phones should be switched off, and if it goes off the player should be asked to switch it off and a warning is given. If it rings again the player will then lose the game. All very well and good, until it is pointed out that actually I am on call for my company 24/7 (the pai...

Re: Cheating in chess

Just to be clear I attended the AGM where this was discussed.

I was not in the room when the actual chess game was taking place, so I do not know.

Re: Cheating in chess

I think there are two things with regards cheating 1) Knowing if someone has cheated or not 2) If someone has cheated what measures/sanctions are in place should someone be proved guilty of cheating. The Wolverhampton Chess League (the local league I play in) discussed anti-cheating measures at the ...

What happens when the pub closes

So we know that a lot of chess clubs play in pubs. What then happens to the chess club if the pub closes down either by a brewery or by the landlord. Obviously the chess club would then have to go to a new venue but how often does this happen.

National Chess Day

A few years ago I seem to remember that the Midlands Chess Counties Union (MCCU) wanted to organise a National Chess Day with the idea that chess events would be going on up and down the country to promote chess and local chess clubs etc. Since then I have heard little about it. Does such a day exis...

National Chess Day

Hello everyone.

Is there a national chess day this year and if so when is it. I have heard about this in the past but as far as I know very few events were organised.

Re: Chess in the UK

If you have a chess.com account I'll play against you in an odds game if you like. With yourself as white the first 8 moves will be: 1 Nf3 Nf6 2 Nd4 Ng8 3 Ne6 Nf6 4 Nxd8 Ng8 5 Ne6 Nf6 6 Nf4 Ng8 7 Nh3 Nf6 8 Ng1 Ng8 This will lead to a starting position without my queen. From then on I'll play normall...

Re: Cancelling Matches

It probably is a bit misleading to compare amateur league chess, to a professional sport such as football (although I have made the unfair comparisons myself on many occassions!) Obviously professional football teams don't conceed fixtures, but then again professional football teams don't have their...

Room rate per week for the room that you play in

I assume that most chess clubs don't own the building they play in, so what is the room rate per week that you pay in rent to play in the room?

And what do you think is a reasonable rate?
