Re: Leonard Barden's last Evening Standard column

Brexit and Bardexit on the same day. It's all too much.

How did Mickey do that?
Mickey's just been asked that, more or less, in Tania's interview and his reply was "I was just incredibly lucky".

Re: Leonard Barden's last Evening Standard column

...I hope the reporting of this record is not lost in the plethora of headlines about the other event taking place that day. It is is pleasing to note that my tweet mentioning Leonard's stint at the Evening Standard (posted on Twitter prior to this thread starting) has garnered far more retweets an...

Re: Gibraltar 2020

I feel I should apologise to the forum for not being able to continue photo coverage of David's progress in the morning tournament, but the powers that be here seem to expect me to concentrate my energies on play in the afternoon section, hence I am now otherwise fully engaged in writing about this....

Re: Gibraltar 2020

As David has said, I have a photo of him with aforementioned beverage, and also one of his opponent pointing gleefully to the a1 square on a demo board, but the forum has a restriction on the size/resolution of photos it is prepared to display. Which is perfectly reasonable as, otherwise, our belov...

Beware the numerous misspellings or mistypings though.

In the era of Richard Hadrell, the bulletin did learn the spelling of "Niedzwiedzki". Earlier years had numerous variants.
Good advice from Roger, nicely exemplified by his own misspelling of 'Haddrell'...

Re: Leon Rosselson

That's good work, Gerard. I contacted Leon in 2004 and he confirmed he had played in the Varsity matches of 1954, 1955 and 1956 (I have scores of all three of his Varsity match games and they are available via BritBase). I now wish I had asked him about his collection of other scoresheets! I shall d...

Re: David Welch

Very sad news about Dave Welch, whom I worked alongside at numerous Isle of Man, Gibraltar and 4NCL events over the past 20 years or so.

I've posted a personal tribute here: http://johnchess.blogspot.com/2019/11/d ... -2019.html

Re: Britbase Question

Yes, sorry chaps, it's very annoying and there's only so much I can do about it as it is the fault of Google's new security regime. A while back someone noticed that, when they arrived at BritBase, they were getting what Geoff shows above. And then I noticed that, in some cases, arriving via Google,...

Re: Finals 13 July 2019 @ Kettering

OK, here goes. Incidentally, if Black had played 35...Qb1! then this trick would not have worked, according to Stockfish. [Event "ECF County Championships 2019"] [Site "Kettering, United Kingdom"] [Date "2019.07.13"] [Round "1.12"] [White "Rosen, Daniel B"] [Black "Sucikova, Svetlana"] [Result "0-1"...
