Re: National Chess Library closure

I would like to see the NCL reopened by the ECF somewhere in Hastings. There is apparently a meeting of the relevant ECF body in September to consider the issue, but that is three months away. Why can we not see more urgency given to the matter? In the absence of anywhere in Hastings for the Library...

Re: National Chess Library closure

Mick Norris, above, asks me for an update. 1) On 24 May I emailed Phil Ehr: "Concerning the future of the National Chess Library. Is it possible for the ECF to set up a dedicated fund to which interested parties can make donations, for the purpose of finding a home for the Library, preferably in the...

Re: National Chess Library closure

If this problem has been brewing for some time why has no-one from ECF contacted the relatives of the contributors of collections to the library to warn them of the possible closure and need for funds or for a new home? I contacted Charles Clarke who opened the library in 2008 and it was the first h...

National Chess Library closure

I am concerned to learn that after only seven years the University of Brighton in Hastings has decided not to continue to host the National Chess Library, where it was offered a "permanent" home, and that the ECF has decided to put the collections into storage where it will not be possible for anyon...
