Re: Should the ECF try to organise more chess?

I am 74 years old and have been playing chess every year since I was 16. Never missed a competitive season since 1970 and one of the few members still around when Cleveland chess association was formed in 1974. It was Teesside before that and I was a member of that. I mention these facts to demonstr...

Re: Membership Renewal

I looked at the lengthy list of protocols for playing chess at the the Northumbria congress and decided its not for me. A joyless way of playing but I am sure others will be willing to give it a try. Credit to the organisers for giving it a go.

Re: Membership Renewal

Fidelity! why go elsewhere when everything one needs is at home :D . Seen too many colleagues go to an early grave due to the lifestyle they chose. Burning candles at both ends never ends well!

Re: Membership Renewal

Thanks for that. No idea. Both my sons (50 &47) have very little hair in fact one is bald. Mine grows so well the barber does not believe my age! Maybe being married to the same women for 51 years, been together 53 years, helps! It must help her because she often gets taken for a 50-60 year old wher...

Re: Membership Renewal

I have renewed my silver membership in the knowledge that Cleveland Chess association has suspended all chess until sometime in the new year. Supporting the national federation in these difficult times is essential, it has outgoings to meet. I am very happy to spend the money which after all is less...

C. R Moore (Richard)

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Mr Richard Moore. Richard was for a long time a trustee of the ECF and a Platinum member. I have known Richard for nearly 50 years, our paths crossing across the board for 5 decades but also in our professional lives he as a defence solicitor and...

2018 grades.

I was surprised to find that a significant number of my games played since 1st January have not been included in the calculations producing my latest grade. Our local grader has published a comment on our web site advising the problem is with the ECF and I am not the only local player so affected. H...

Re: Is Merseyside leaving the NCCU?

I was at Clevelands AGM recently. The members decided not to bother with the NCCU for now and wont be paying the annual membership. This position may change in the future.

Re: Claims by C.J. de Mooi

Brian Eley has been mentioned many times on this forum. 20 years + after the news broke on Crime watch is a long time and in my opinion he will probably die somewhere abroad before he's ever brought back to the UK to face justice. There is little doubt someone in the UK knows where he is but keeps t...

Re: Greek economic system arrives in Cleveland

Before leaving this subject I feel it right to say this, The ECF and local chess associations all rely on the efforts of volunteers who for the most part do their very best for the organisation they belong too; many however have busy lives both working and domestically and there will be times when t...

Re: Greek economic system arrives in Cleveland

Thankfully I have just found out that our accounting system is to be normalised very soon due to contact finally being made with the former treasurer. It remains to be seen how we fund the congress however it will no longer be any of my concern. I have decided to call a day on the Cleveland chess sc...
