2018 grades.

I was surprised to find that a significant number of my games played since 1st January have not been included in the calculations producing my latest grade. Our local grader has published a comment on our web site advising the problem is with the ECF and I am not the only local player so affected. H...

Re: Is Merseyside leaving the NCCU?

I was at Clevelands AGM recently. The members decided not to bother with the NCCU for now and wont be paying the annual membership. This position may change in the future.

Re: Claims by C.J. de Mooi

Brian Eley has been mentioned many times on this forum. 20 years + after the news broke on Crime watch is a long time and in my opinion he will probably die somewhere abroad before he's ever brought back to the UK to face justice. There is little doubt someone in the UK knows where he is but keeps t...

Re: Greek economic system arrives in Cleveland

Before leaving this subject I feel it right to say this, The ECF and local chess associations all rely on the efforts of volunteers who for the most part do their very best for the organisation they belong too; many however have busy lives both working and domestically and there will be times when t...

Re: Greek economic system arrives in Cleveland

Thankfully I have just found out that our accounting system is to be normalised very soon due to contact finally being made with the former treasurer. It remains to be seen how we fund the congress however it will no longer be any of my concern. I have decided to call a day on the Cleveland chess sc...

Re: Greek economic system arrives in Cleveland

BTW as many know I financially supportchess congress/events locally, well I used to, and helped run them. Indeed I want to see another one but theres ways to do things without having rose tinted glasses. At some point reality is going to hit home.

Greek economic system arrives in Cleveland

The following is factual and will no dout appear on our web site in due course. Last night was Cleveland chess associations AGM. Before proceeding I need to turn the clock back to last years AGM. It was agreed by the members that CCA would run a Middlesbrough chess congress. Following that the membe...

Re: IM Colin Crouch

Very sad news. For many years Colin played in North East tournaments. A perfect gent. I first came across him around 1977 when I played in the Open section of the Middlesbrough congress. I was graded 155 at the time and Colin was 210. I played him in the first round and was expected to get beat howe...

Re: Keene's claim to have won "22 national championship titles."

Keene is a controversial individual however chess is full of such individuals myself included so why don't we just accept that fact and move on. I suspect Ray gets some pleasure knowing at his age people are still discussing him; after all, his achievements are now very much in the past. He's yester...

Chess club folds

Today I learned that one of our long established chess clubs has folded apparently after the person who has ran it for many decades decided to call a halt and no other member was prepared to take it on. I found this quite sad because the aforementioned individual is someone I have known for over 40 ...
