Re: What is a Bona Fide Member of a Chess Club
Clearly bona fide member can’t be defined by anyone. - even the creme de la creme of English chess do not understand it. But we know for sure that writtle lost in a bona fide way. Instead of accepting their bonafide loss they decided to sulk and run to the controller. Bona fide winners are Brentwood...

Re: British 2015 Round by Round
In the golding-Shaw game white missed a classy 5 move mate with a neat little RH8 check followed by QH3. how heartbreaking it must be for him now seemingly completely lost.

Online tournaments with prizes
Can anyone suggest the best places on the web to play chess with chances of winning prizes? For instance in a tournament or even possibly one on one. I remember a few years ago I played in a tournament on chesscubein which the winner gets everything paid for including hotel, flights, food and entry ...

Re: Claiming a draw with less than 2 minutes on clock.
I don't think it absurd in the slightest. If you reach a drawn Rook and Pawn ending and you defend adequately, it shouldn't matter how much your opponent huffs and puffs. Similarly with Rook v Knight or Rook v Bishop.[/quote] Of course it's absurd, there is a reason why there is a rating scale. You ...

Re: Claiming a draw with less than 2 minutes on clock.
So how would that be accomplished when an arbiter is not present? I find it strange that there are no clear cut answers, apart from the fact that it the decision is completely left with the arbiter - even though there is a possibility it may be a biased/wrong decision.

Claiming a draw with less than 2 minutes on clock.
I had a match on Wednesday in the london league. Our position had only just reached king and rook vs king and bishop. I had the rook and I was black. As soon as we got to the endgame my opponent immediately claimed a draw. And at the same time his flag fell. Regardless of that what are the rules if ...

Great performance by nikolas cross and I really wish him all the best for tomorrow, hoping he will get at least half a point tomorrow to secure an IM norm.

Re: Can I 1800 become a GM or is it to late?
Matt - it has got to be a stage thing. First thing is to win from dead level positions with White or Black. Don't agree draws - do you do that now. Connected with that, learn endgames. Buy a decent endgame book or, if you have access to ChessBase Magazine, play through all of Karsten Muller's endga...
