Re: Counties and clubs

In the south, Hastings to Chicester is 65miles, but I think they play in different leagues despite both being Sussex. Correct, though Chichester or Bognor v Hastings can be a possible fixture in knockout competitions. Horsham v Hastings is the longest journey in Sussex for a regular evening league ...

Re: Media comments on chess

Cute interview with 79 year old Peter Lee and 8 year old Bodhana Sivanandan also showing clips of 3 10 minute games they played. Peter was overtired by the 3rd gsme. At the Atheneum club. https://youtu.be/BSzZwRBJVvY?si=yzFYcXHXKr-gpFac Yesterday in the Sussex v Middlesex match, Bodhana Sivanandan ...

Re: 2022 US Chess Championship

Whoops Ummm, yes but then... I really don't get why they came back the next day, just to play two 10 min games and an Armageddon; why not at least play 1/2 hour games or maybe another two 10 minute games. The whole thing was over in an hour. it was odd that Yu's mistake in the Armageddon was almost...

Absolute tragedy for Yu
Shocker.

Meanwhile Thalia Cervantes has gone from 3/7 to 8/12 and is no longer tilting at windmills; could even win the tournament if she beats Yu in the last round.

Board 6 appears to be an all Mark Page clash
a draw apparently; guess they were evenly matched.

Re: ECF AGM 2022

As well as what John mentioned above, there was a wider context described in Malcolm Pein's address on international, of the difficulty England juniors have in improving their FIDE ratings given the shortage of FIDE rated competitions in England. So parents of juniors were looking for good rated tou...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

I think they just wanted those people that favoured in-person to have the option; that's allowing, not insisting, a very big difference. So they guessed what I wanted ( having not listened to what I said )*, voted for that, got it wrong and now we're stuck with yet another hybrid event to which nob...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

Well you won your motion for Leeds / Manchester to be included in the rotation and also the motion was amended so that one of those would be the venue for 2023, rather than wait. There were no votes against I think.

Well done.

Re: ECF AGM 2022

I just doubt the cat can be put back in the bag. But sure, something is lost. My point is that in the mean time we seem to be persisting with the hybrid approach, having proved twice that people won't go, and it is the people who won't go that are insisting on it. I don't agree they are insisting o...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

Nobody on zoom said anything about thinking other people should be there in-person. A number of people on zoom thought the in-person option should remain as a choice, that's all. Yes, but the only reason to hold face to face meetings is so that people who go can meet others whom they would otherwis...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

The people who were not in Birmingham were sure they did not need to be in Birmingham. Other people were entitled to make their own decisions. Quite. Nobody on zoom said anything about thinking other people should be there in-person. A number of people on zoom thought the in-person option should re...

Nick

I cannot comment on any technology issues that you experienced but I found the material via the link to council papers provided by John Reyes up thread.
So can you see my address or not?
Yes it's there, and very clear and succinct it is too.

Re: Curious time control

37 in 2 1/2 hrs. and 37 in 1 1/4 hrs. make sense in that your are trying to get to 4 mins per move in a 5 hr. session and 2 mins per move in a 2 1/2 hr. session.

In both cases it seems a shame the logic was not pursued further to put the time control at 37 1/2 moves, i.e. after White's 37th.
