Drawing tendencies
I probably offer and agree too many draws 44 percent last year. There are some valid reasons for my drawing tendencies but being scared of losing is one . There is a person in a club I play for that is a lot worse 68 percent, though he does tend to play a relative high board for his grade and try to...

Chess Base is it worth it
At around £200 for the mega package is it worth it , do I need the full package. I am looking at it since I think with loads of games on line now everybody is better prepared for your openings in tournaments , what I think it might give me A way to have a tree structure of my and opponents openings ...

Re: Will chess clocks be replaced by apps
It sounds like some on here have not seen these apps. The display even on a phone is as clear as an electronic clock and its perfectly obvious whose clock is ticking and the area to hit is as large as that on a clock While authorities and user acceptance takes a long time with all technology I can s...

Will chess clocks be replaced by apps
With tablets down to £80 or so new, after down loading a chess clock to my smart phone today , I was thinking that maybe tablets will get down to say £40 at some point and second had even cheaper and these will possibly replace chess clocks. They are easier to program , but not quite so good on the ...

Gibralter and getting games graded for ECF
I am sure I read before that you have to write in advance to notify the grader that you want results included. Can anybody refer me - preferably a link to any procedures I need to follow
Thanks

Re: How Do You Resign
I have had an opponent walk out the venue in the league match saying nothing and then there are those that don't turn up to adjournments as I had last year in Div 1 in the Bham League , no apology no nothing and you have to sit there because they just might turn up very late .

Not sure whether I should fire this subject up again . I was one of the original posters and have not read the thread for a long time , but as with most forums when a thread goes to more than 2 pages its usually a heated discussion amongst limited individuals . Back to the thread as somebody who pla...

Re: Possession of (or by) Mobile Phones
Players could put them in a central location in the match room turned off in a small platic bag with name on . Or perhaps on each table somewhere. Most sports you have to change for , this is a small inconvenience

Re: Chess and Road Cycling
I have played Competitive Chess for 37 years (177 ecf at the mo) and also am a racing cyclist. Mainly time trial but some road races. Last year I combined the two (sort of ) and took the Sunday morning off the Staffordshire Congress and went for a ride with the club and then diverted to play the aft...

Re: GRADING ANOMALIES
The last 2 weekends in the 4ncl I have won one drawn one. The player being in the 1800-1900 bracket . Because each of the ones I won did not have a proper FIDE rating I ended up dropping rating points when my overall performance for the weekend was in ECF terms positive to equal. The 2 games won wer...

Re: Attitudes
It was a typical chess players communication , to the point but not diplomatic. Personally the situation reminds me of the old Woody Allen line " I am not afraid of death , I just don't want to be there when it happens" To me the more juniors in these tournaments the better (for chess) just please d...

Blood Pressure
Recently diagnosed with high blood pressure, I have been monitoring it with a home machine and Chess matches send it through the roof and it takes about 36 hours to come down to normal , without work and chess its below the 90/140 without tablets. At the moment after discussing it with the doc I hav...
