Re: Not paying the entry fee

Noy a free game, I wanted to avoid rating loss Here's a funny thing. I get lots of free games with no rating loss (or gain, for that matter) down my local chess club. Some evenings more than half a dozen, depending on the time control me and my opponents agree on. They're called "friendlies". You s...

Re: ECF Game Fee

That seems to be most generous of him, but only highlights the fact that those 'in the loop' are able to make informed decisions while everyone else is at the mercy of the ECF's 'communication strategy'.

Re: ECF Game Fee

I would have expected at least a website announcement or an update to the relevant sections.

Were Devon (and others) made aware of the rise or will they unexpectedly find themselves out of pocket when the bill arrives?

Re: ECF Game Fee

Not just Game Fee, membership cost as well. Membership for 2014-15 is supposedly now closed, although appears still open. https://paysubsonline.com/thirdpartyregistration.aspx?clubID=9967eb1c5995e58af7bd317a4fc08722 The theory was that new membership for 2015-16 would cover 14 months, notwithstandi...

Re: ECF Game Fee

Yes, and the pay-to-play fee is going up too. My point is that the ECF are not communicating with those of us who need to book venues, print entry forms etc.

ECF Game Fee

So, when do the ECF plan on announcing the price hike to their customers? Or do they expect everyone to read the minutes of the finance council meeting.

Re: Problems Accessing the ECF Grading Database?

The issue is neither your idea of enormous really isn't in this day and age. The statement on the grading site says: "The game lists have been an increasing drain on resources, culminating in a complete crash of the site for a few hours..." So if the number of requests aren't the problem and the am...

Re: Problems Accessing the ECF Grading Database?

OK, that makes sense :-)

Will the ECF need to upgrade their server, or can they maybe partition the games table to make it less resource intensive?

Re: Problems Accessing the ECF Grading Database?

The official comment implies that the down time is due to excessive usage.

If perhaps the 'View by Event' feature was removed, would this reduce the number of database calls as users wouldn't need to select each event in turn to view their season records?

Pay to play fee

If a non ECF member plays in a congress and then subsequently joins the ECF within the membership year, would the congress organisers still need to pay the £6 'pay to play' fee?

Grading versus ungraded player

If you play a game against an ungraded player who plays no other graded games, what effect would this result have on your grade?

Re: ECF Game Fee Billing

The last thing I have heard about billing was a notice on the ECF website posted last month.

Has anyone received such an invoice yet or can provide an update?

Re: ECF Game Fee Billing

In its way, the calculation and invoicing process is the same as it was in 2012 for areas running MOs and adjacent areas. That doesn't mean to say the ECF have anything that itemises by player or club as they didn't used to be able to supply that. When the rate per game was no more than 60p, perhap...
