Sad news indeed. I played no less than six times against Paul in matches for my club Battersea against both Surbiton and Mushrooms, on one occasion twice in a month and with a variety of results. He always seemed a very pleasant guy.

I don't for a minute believe that Ding threw the match. But I'm baffled by what exactly he hadn't seen after Rf2, as I haven't seen any definitive answer to that question. And the same for his blunder (which I thought was an even worse one) in the 11th game. Can anyone cast any light on this?

Although I have only just seen this, I would like to add my condolences. Abraham and I shared first prize in a weekend congress in Hitchin in 1991, and had an excellent hard fought game during the tournament, featuring his trademark 1 b4. We played subsequently a couple of times in the London League...
