Re: Chess is not a sport but a game. So what’s the difference?

USA, Canada or Australia are not in EU. Chess is the sport in Slovakia. It means chess is also for children from the families with low income in Slovakia. She would never play Youth Championship ( European or World) if she would not be member of her origin federation. Coaching in UK at Youth Champio...

Re: Chess is not a sport but a game. So what’s the difference?

The petition to recognise chess as a sport . I was born more than half century ago and chess was the sport in my country at that time and is the sport till now. No one doubts it, although you might have some jokes about this theme , but jokes are about everything. So I never thought that chess could...

Re: Refunding Entry Fees to Withdrawn Players

-your assertion that English congresses in general don’t offer entry fee refunds as a matter of principle is complete nonsense- It was not my assertion, it was an assertion of Newcastle Masters Congress Director. I have withdrawn my daughter only once for the last five years, in 2017 from the Britis...

Re: Refunding Entry Fees to Withdrawn Players

I entrid my daughter - WFM- 2100 - the 23rd of January to the Masters congress in Newcastle. At the 28th of January I cancelled her registration, because she needed to be in the school ( the University) , she had any test which was 25% of her exam. They accepted also her entry, also her cancellation...

Re: Refunding Entry Fees to Withdrawn Players

Thank you Michael for this topic. I see it is about Svetlana - I have recently come across a case where an entrant entered but had to pull out more than two weeks ahead of the event. Not returning a £60 entry fee and claiming it to be normal UK practice does seem incorrect to me. - I will try to wri...

Re: Xenophobic abuse in British chess in the post-Brexit world

My main problem was, that I did not understand the situation all the time. (Chessplayers are masters in explaining, they can write a book about one chess position. So I did not wait that something can not be explained. ) she must top up her Silver Junior - why - she must top up if she wants to play ...

Re: Xenophobic abuse in British chess in the post-Brexit world

Has anyone had any experience of such racist, or xenophobic abuse, apparently related to Brexit, either online or in the real world? Hi Paul, I have this xenofobic experience. My daughter ( she is 18 years old member of SVK federation), could not be entered to British Chess Championship 2017 , howev...
