A good film. Thanks for pointing it out on channel 91 which I otherwise would have missed.

Ever sat at the Wong Board?
Just back from the usual well run and enjoyable Congress at Imperial College. https://union.ic.ac.uk/rcc/chess/2017/01/central-london-chess-congress-at-imperial-college-april-2017/ Round 4 Sunday morning and two players both with the black pieces near me get up for a stroll at around move 10. One co...

Re: Which Two Books ? - The Quest continues
Not much to report on the book front at Paleochora, Crete. We had a 1 hr power cut around 90 mins into round 8 just at twilight. Everyone still playing piled outside into the town square and waited. I paused the clock and after a few mins or so offered my opponent the draw as the cuts have been 3 hr...

Re: Which Two Books ? - The Quest continues
Well Rd4 brought a nice tactical win by Daniel with more forks pins and skewers than a kebab shop cutlery draw. Nathan went into R & 5P v R & 3P but ended up at the time control R&2 v R&1. His King traveled from c3 to e7 then back to g1 to eventually collect the passed pawn on g3 and win. My opponen...

Re: Which Two Books ? - The Quest continues
In Round 2 there was a 1 second power cut so the building alarm went off. Other than that no major upsets apart from a prolonged “touched & move” discussion on one of the lower boards. Nathan Alfred and Daniel Gallagher were both on 2/2. With quite a few GM’s on 1.5, drawing with Black against oppon...

Which Two Books ? - The Quest continues
I know, I know we put this one to bed last year. All you need to get through a 9 round tournament is a 2nd hand lap top full of Fritz, an opening mega database with every pgn file by date, tournament and opening order and as many copied chess books in pdf format as you can find legally or probably n...

Re: London Chess Classic 2015
Well having been at the LCC this weekend both Nakamura and Caruana came out smiling this afternoon. Caruana signed a few books and posed for a few seflies, Nakamura tried to get into the commentary room but was too full of the hoi poloi so he gave up and went into the VIP lounge instead. Made a chan...

Re: Chess in schools
Many but by no means all schools here in Bromley run a chess club.
In my daughters school they have chess club for half an hour a week with local GM Chris Ward .....and she's chosen netball instead !
I know what you're thinking -" you can take a horse to water..."

Re: Claims by C.J. de Mooi
Well I played him once. Back in October 1997 at Maidstone in what I remember as the Kent Minor - my first ever weekend congress. He had the white pieces, a grade of 121 & played the Kings Indian attack. We agreed a draw in a state in my case of first round nerves and perhaps his as well. I would giv...
