Re: Out of turn draw offer

No. The text of the law in question is as follows (my emphasis): 9.1.2.1    A player wishing to offer a draw shall do so after having made a move on the chessboard and before pressing his/her clock. An offer at any other time during play is still valid but Article 11.5 must be considered. No condit...

Re: NCCU and the MCF

Visiting the Lancashire County Chess Association site:
Website is under maintenance

We are doing some updates on our site, and we need to be offline for a while. We will be back with you shortly!
Seems a rather strange time to do this, eh?

Re: Alan Charlton

Alan has made one post on this forum. The earliest games I have for him are three from 25 Feb 1966 where he was playing a much weaker opponent (one M Farthing). Rather amazingly, and it has come as a surprise to me to discover this today, he scored only 1/2 out of 3 - must have been a seriously bad ...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

Maybe not, but it was quite a pressurised thing, perhaps worrying about holding everything up

Re: ECF AGM 2022

The AGM would have worked technically had each person at the Birmingham venue used a headset with their laptop. Every single vote that the Surrey and Hampshire Border League cast was described as a "split vote" even though it wasn't but I can accept some teething issues. How one splits a vote of on...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

I have to admit that in this situation the letter from the silver reps once read (roughly)

Michael Farthing is standing to be a member of the Governance Committee. Michael will be voting in favour and John better had do. [At the time, in minor mitigation, the reps had only 1 vote each].

Re: ECF AGM 2022

Following discussion at the October 2021 meeting it was agreed that a proposal should be brought as the first item to the April 2022 Finance Council and if the proposal were to be accepted that Council meeting would itself be made public. In the event the April Finance Council voted against by a sub...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

I think the nonsense was quite deliberately intended to bring out the ridiculousness of the suggestion that because some English players have accepted positions in FIDE the ECF should be seen as culpable for this, as had been implied. If you are unable to detect that what I was saying was tongue in ...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

J.T. - you have a strong but personal view that there is a duty on candidates to present an election address and seem to be trying to turn this almost into an existential issue. It is not. It is a minimal issue. A candidate might well think it would aid zeer chances with the electorate and therefore...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

Is it me or is something not as it should be? I don't see it either. My guess would be that some content is behind a login wall. It is indeed. I am not sure why. The Agenda is public The Meeting Records tab brings initially brings up the current version of the Voting Register At the foot of that pa...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

The choice of venue might of course directly affect consequent changes in membership fees as venue costs vary enormously depending on where the venue is. (though in fairness the variations probably works out at about 15p a member)

Re: ECF AGM 2022

But then Berwick is never quite sure whether it's in England or Scotland and has been known in the past to claim to be entirely independent and a peer of both those two nations - as when it joined with them in declaring war on Russia in the Crimea. It periodically makes private peace treaties with R...

Re: ECF AGM 2022

As may be, but no nominatiom was received from Yorkshire and one was received from Manchester. If evidence can be found for Yorkshire I will consider it. Morning Michael, I have forwarded you our nominations email to both your personal email and council.chair@englishchess.org.uk These were original...
