Re: Council Papers are out
Correct. A bit of anticipation when the AGM announcement went out.Alex McFarlane wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2019 5:25 pm
My understanding is that when the ECF papers announced that an appointment had been made the interviews hadn't even taken place.

Re: Membership Query
Did you have to take any additional action to get the new membership “acknowledged” (eg. formally renew on the system without payment?) I don't believe I've received any formal acknowledgement of renewal, nor have I done anything about it other than checking my bank account online which confirmed t...

Re: Membership Query
So I received the renewal notice on July 10 - I don’t think I took any action. I note on that email it mentioned the DD option and that you would be notified a month prior to any money being taken. On 31st Aug I received email advising membership had expired and to go to (web address) to renew. I d...

Re: Preferences for a weekender
I've no strong preference beyond saying that 3 standardplay games in a day isn't practical. If in doubt, just look at the Longson vs Toma game yesterday in the English Women's Championship. OK, that was truly exceptional but a couple of my games in the same event were at, or close to, 4 hours.

Re: July 2019 grades......
Having spent a while today researching this also, I've realised dates and colours are not accurate either, as well as board numbers not being entertained. Why have we got a grading system with such massive deficiencies in it? Are we just hoping that the "graders" do their job properly? I was a grad...

Re: Grade File Checker
I've already tried that - running it in compatiblity mode for Win XP/7/8 - all with the same result. I think others have reported that they have had to keep an ageing computer in commission purely to run ECF grading software. I've reported having to keep an XP computer running for the old ECF Leagu...

If it was indeed Andrew who picked up on this, or whoever it was, and sorted it on a Sunday, a big thank you.

I have also been unable to log into my ECF email account since yesterday, so it does seem that something has gone wrong within the ECF office systems. No doubt Andrew will be on top of it on Monday.

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system
The old ECF League program works fine for me, but it means I'm having to maintain a Windows XP computer running just for grading, and this has caused me some problems Julie, you can ask Windows 10 to run a program as if it were running in a Windows XP environment. See the following page for some ad...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system
However, I have been persuaded on the basis that it should be a good move for juniors This really is the tail wagging the dog. First you decide which system works best for the main and largely homogeneous population, then you consider which tweaks are required for groups which need separate treatme...

Re: ECF to scrap its grading system
My interest in this subject is not only as a Director, but also as a local grader. In the latter capacity I had some reluctance to such a change out of self interest. Although it obviously won't mean any more games to grade, it will mean I have 12 grading deadlines to meet each year instead of 2! Ho...
