Re: I've done something stupid in Swiss Manager

I would be interested to know how you managed that. There is a bug whereby if you are in SM with tournament A loaded which already has a DBKey (having been uploaded to chess-results) and you create a new tournament B then the DBKey that was there for A is not cleared. You then upload tournament B a...

AD wins 157 - 16. Wow!
Presumably the reward for being the first president for about 50 years to be both competent and not corrupt to the core. FIDE federations doing what democracy demands and voting their best interests.

Re: Covid-Related Inflation/Deflation Discussion

According to new FIDE rating regulations coming in on 1st January 2022: There was then another worldwide Zoom meeting where final decisions were taken. As a result, 3-hour games (90+90) will be accepted provided that both players are rated below 2400, an increase from 2200. Hopefully, it will help t...

Characteristic Justin - no explanation, as usual.
I long ago came to the conclusion that he must be an escaped character from that old TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" - he never looks in the mirror.

Thanks to Heinz Herzog for fixing this now with the latest update, and to Rob Willmoth and Rob Hammond for pushing this to the front of the queue!

Re: ECF Rating Database broken for Arbiters

This is something we are trying to upgrade. The file changed when we added online ratings to the system. There will be other changes as we move the online rating administration onto the OTB system. Unfortunately this all takes longer than we would like. Brian Valentine Manager ECF rating Is making ...

ECF Rating Database broken for Arbiters

Swiss Manager has a useful function which allows the automatic download and incorporation of various rating lists including ECF standard and rapid. This was working a month ago but now attempts to do this give an error saying there is a server error. SM is looking for the file here: https://www.ecfr...

Re: Chess Covid regulations poll

Three or 4 people out of every 100 who catch Covid go to hospital, which is clearly going to be a lot if case numbers remain sky high. The rise in infection rates is outpacing every country in the world currently. This is wrong. Today's figures are over 32,000 +ve tests and fewer than 600 admission...

Re: FIDE rating differences between countries

For Swiss events the FIDE cost of rating is €1 per player per event. No, that's not true. All of the FIDE rated blitz tournaments I've organized have incurred zero rating costs because FIDE doesn't charge for rating blitz and the ECF don't grade them and so can't charge for what they don't do. It's...

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

I am however still struggling to find a way to reduce the likelihood of pairings between juniors. I'm struggling to understand why this is difficult. My version of Swiss Manager has an option in the "Pairings" menu called "Forbidden Pairings". Yes, I know it is a lot of work but still easier than t...

Why is FIDE putting random / test data in its live database?

Re: What do you think - is this game for real?

If an error-strewn game like that disturbs you so much, Jonathan, then why do you play online? And if you are going to play online why choose what is pretty much the optimum cheat's time control? If you want to see some really dodgy online play then check out Simon William's YouTube channel for game...

Will FIDE consider extending the 26 month limit for new players qualifying for a rating?

More generally, given the current hiatus in over the board chess (with the possible exception of Sweden), will / should FIDE look at extending time limits / deadlines for other things?
