Re: British Championship Congress 2019

my memory might be deceiving me, but I wonder whether Small and Arkell played in the British in the early to mid 1980s, Small winning with f6-f7 discovered check? I don’t know if the game was in the British, but it was published in Chess with some amusing annotations by Small. He was also an active...

Re: Ecf Silver member letter

I also think the ECF board should be independent of CSC. No idea why you think it isn’t, but I’m guessing that you have very little idea of how CSC works! Agree with that Roger I'll be explaining to the Gold reps another reason to not vote for Tim That’s a shame Mick, I feel I should contact them t...

Re: Div 3 North 2017 - 18

Congratulations to Bradford, but farcical that there promotion place should be decided by winning a match against their B team.
Obviously all the discussion earlier in the thread regarding pairings has failed to provide a sensible framework for the league.

George Hadfield mentioned above worked at the Vauxhall Motors plant in Ellesmere Port.
He also played for their chess team for many years in the local leagues prior to his death in the late eighties / early nineties.

Meanwhile, it looks like Naka's "unsound" sacrifice may have worked over the board......
Why do you think it was unsound, the view in the commentary room was that Nf5 was a great move.

Re: Women's World Championship match

After the move 18... Bc5 not sure what's happening... What's happening is that Hou Yifan took a hefty blow to the skull. This clearly hadn't featured in her prep. Indeed, not all engines see the idea, I understand. She spent nearely 40 minutes wondering if she wasn't in fact lost on the spot with 1...

Bob - I think you are right, and I wrote somewhere else that Robert won. My bad memory. Were you there? The simul was actually played sometime in 1989. Unfortunately the Cheshire & North Wales records covering that era have been lost. I had mis-remembered that Kasparov lost only to Dave Tebb, but a...
