Re: EU referendum aftermath

On your point 1, Paul: Wasn't the Remain campaign run jointly by Johnson and Hilary Benn? Also I think it's worth pointing out that Lord Ashcroft's polling had Labour voters voting 63% for Remain and that was with 10 Labour MP supporting Leave (and in some cases actively campaigning for Leave). By ...

Re: EU referendum aftermath

This has nothing to do with the European Referendum and is a fight to decide who runs the Labour Party - MPs or members. As I am in the latter group I have my views but: 1. Corbyn did not run the Labour EU referendum, Alan Johnson did. Why is he not being sacked instead? https://www.theguardian.com/...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

10 wins and one draw - west was most definitely best, in fact I dont think anybody is going to be breaking that record any time soon. Record was set before in Div 3 so you equalled it. Still, a good effort. Good luck in Div 2. It is tough up there! 2013/14 Division 3 P W D L GP SOS Pts Guildford 3 ...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

I believe they were done on the basis of the previous season's finishing order, thus the two top seeds were the relegated teams from division 2. Declared squad: Supposition. Previous season's finishing order: Fact. I would add that the captains were also given the opportunity to object, I seem to r...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

Seedings in 4NCL are very difficult because of the fluctuation in the squads from year to year. For instance, demoted teams (such as mine) may lose players and are seeded too high. Then we have teams such as WIB who had a low seeding for reasons given above but have an excellent manager who is able ...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

Hi Mat According to an email from Dave Thomas dated 19 October the draft seedings were: Div 3S 1 Rhyfelwyr Essyllwg 2 Wessex 3 Surbiton 4 Midland Monarchs 1 5 Fermented Sharks 6 Anglian Avengers 2 7 Leeds University Old Boys 8 Poisoned Pawns 9 Ashfield-Breadsall 1 10 Shropshire 1 11 Warwickshire Sel...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

I don't think it is particularly unfair. You decide who gets promoted or relegated by reference to the results against the teams who have succeeded or failed to get into the promotion or relegation pool. The discarded results still had value as they were instrumental in deciding whether you got into...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

Secondly as regards the seeding in Division 3 (South), it's impossible to predict who may or may not turn out for a team based on previous season's results. A fair and thoughtful seeding was done based on the criteria laid down; it's so happened that Pool A has turned out stronger than Pool B but I...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

Joey As you say, we're fair people. The pros and cons aren't quite as clear-cut as you make them out to be to be honest, but you're clearly passionate about the subject. Anyway, if there's a groundswell of opinion that all results should be carried forward I'm sure we would have no particular probl...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

It would be good to see both Welsh sides (or at least the Welsh side and the half-Welsh side!) in the Promotion Pool, and not just so we can carry our points against you forward! I haven't managed to get the 50/50 balance in the First Team yet; both weekends it has been 4/2 in favour of the South W...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

Div 3SA is pretty tight in the middle and it is good to see that the MM 1 and WIB 1 have probably the youngest teams and find themselves in the top 2 places. However, the fight to scrape into the promotion pool is likely to be very close. Demotion to Div 4 may be very penalising for player retention...

Re: Welsh Chess Union - Vexatious Complaints Policy

Not sure why you would be so interested or why this is posted on an English Chess Forum. I am sure there must be a reason but cannot see your motivation. Perhaps, you could browse other federation's websites and provide the same detail? As a starter you could start with: Maldives - http://maldivesch...

Re: Division Three South (2015-16)

Bearing in mind the comment on the seedings in Division Three North, I can advise that Division Three South appears quite a bit stronger than it's northern counterpart. Working on the more reliable ECF grades in Round One, Pool A averaged ECF 184 with the lowest team graded an average 174 and the h...

Re: World Youth Chess Championship 2015

The impact on ratings that the tournament can have and the accuracy of the ratings is illustrated by Venetia Sivarajasingam from Wales. She is rated 1644 on 5/8 having just lost to a player rated 1720. Unfortunately she is down 54.8 points having lost in round 1 to a player rated 1162 who is now on...
