Re: New broadcast model for World Championship Match

Ah With Agon attempting to ban discussion of the games whilst they are in progress, how are the "hundreds of millions" whose preferred language is not supported by the Agon commentary supposed to follow the match? There's certainly an audience for top class chess and it can be large enough to crash...

Re: New broadcast model for World Championship Match

As far as the legal action is concerned - as you can appreciate these cases take a while to reach court, but the action taken against websites that commenced at the Candidates are ongoing and nearing a court date. In which jurisdiction? Russia. But through reciprocal international trade and legal a...

Sounds like a gonner, or for football fans in North London, a Gooner.
I pronounce it "A-gone" as opposed to "Ah-gone"

Re: New broadcast model for World Championship Match

Roger, I am not sure how Agon can be fairly described as a parasite if we are giving chess websites the chance to make money from our investment in the sport. This whole model is about making sure that everyone who has long nurtured communities of chess fans can benefit financially from what we are ...

Re: New broadcast model for World Championship Match

Hi there Federations also get 10%. In terms of income to specific federations: Honestly, this is a brand new model so it is quite difficult to estimate the revenue for specific federations and it will slightly depend on how successfully federations communicate to their members about it. But hypothet...

New broadcast model for World Championship Match

Morning everyone The below is a press release that Agon is putting out this morning. Since the Candidates we have been working hard to put in place a broadcasting model that will hopefully support the sustainable commercial development of chess for the benefit of everyone including chess websites an...

Re: WC Match 2016 - New York 10-30 November

Hi everyone Just to add to Leonard's post, I appreciate that there is a degree of doubt about New York being the venue for the championship match. But all I can say is that it is definitely happening in New York and we will make an announcement in the next two to three weeks. We have some incredibly...

Re: AGON "under probation"

There's rumors about Agon failing to find sponsors for the match in New York and pressure to move the world championship to Russia. This might be the first formal step of FIDE in that direction. Or it could be a load of old Bank Holiday nonsense. This link is for the official statement on the matte...

Re: Amol Rajan article in Evening Standard

I watched Brooklyn Castle a few years back and clearly chess had a wonderful impact on the kids of that school. More years ago, I brought Maurice Ashley to Bermuda to talk to the Education Minister about the demonstrated benefits of chess in schools, quoting the Brooklyn experience. His response wa...

Re: Amol Rajan article in Evening Standard

I watched Brooklyn Castle a few years back and clearly chess had a wonderful impact on the kids of that school. Yes Andrew it had. I found it astounding that Brooklyn Castle was largely ignored by chess fans and the mainstream press. I don't really know why. Strange isn't it? If it worked in a scho...

Re: Official comment on quality of Candidates Broadcast

Roger pointed out earlier that chess audiences have become used to websites falling over on the first day, to the point that it is a pleasant surprise when it doesn't happen. So when Agon, who make a religion of refusing to learn from other people's mistakes, blame a malicious attack, all you can d...

I hope we can be assured that claims of posts here being edited at the demand of parties related to Agon are entirely baseless.
If I may jump into this thread with both feet, I happen to live in Brixton - have done for 12 years.

Re: Official comment on quality of Candidates Broadcast

Roger, The two spikes (the first being at 16.20) were equivalent to several thousand percent of the traffic recorded in the first hour of the games. If it had been an IT balls up, then I would have said "Sorry, it was an IT balls up, our fault, we will do better tomorrow." But it wouldn't have been ...
