Re: Why you should learn to mate with bishop and knight

Closest I got was K+B+N vs K + 4 pawns (a, f, g, h). I knew I needed the B and N to round up the a pawn, but, with a little crowd gathering, also knew that what the crowd didn't know was that I didn't know if I knew how to do the B+N mate. By not know if I knew, I mean that it was so long ago that ...

Re: Ever sat at the Wong Board?

When I first started playing for Bristol Uni, I was completely new to over the board chess. I sat at the wrong board for quite a while waiting. As I was a Master's student, another Bristol Uni undergrad sat opposite me and we were about to play when the captain noticed and rectified it haha. This wa...

Re: CROWDFUNDING SOUGHT FOR CHESS EDUCATION PLATFORM

Hi, English Chess Forum! I just wanted to pop on here because we discussed Chessable's funding requirements on the forum a few months ago. I wanted to thank Simon Brown, a member here for his counsel which combined with a lot of other work we have done has led to us finalising a round of funding. We...

Re: CROWDFUNDING SOUGHT FOR CHESS EDUCATION PLATFORM

Dear Simon, Apologies for the late response, I had been busy preparing our re-launch on Crowdcube https://www.crowdcube.com/chessable/ I am happy to justify our reasoning to anyone seriously considering investment. I prefer to do such endeavours via phone call or in person as it is easier to address...

Re: CROWDFUNDING SOUGHT FOR CHESS EDUCATION PLATFORM

Hi Simon, Ian, I am happy to justify the valuation to serious investors who have considered it when looking closely at the value proposition (business plan, contracts, financials, etc). Would be even happier to do so in person if anyone is ever around in London, Bristol or Swindon (for a chat and a ...

Re: CROWDFUNDING SOUGHT FOR CHESS EDUCATION PLATFORM

Hi Roger, John, John, thanks for sharing my crowdfunding campaign https://www.seedrs.com/chessable I wanted to take a moment to reply to this thread. I played my first OTB game last year, as Adam Raoof the organiser in London will confirm. I started learning chess as the article says around three ye...

Re: Ugandan player Phiona Mutesi

I think it's hard for serious chess players to be objective about this sort of thing FIDE has a long standing policy of awarding titles based on relative performance in its events. Perhaps with the extension of ratings down to 1000 they could reconsider. An Elo of 1600 is broadly equivalent to 125 ...

Re: Why can't I get excited about Carlsen Karjakin?

There may be some interesting games, but I predict Carlsen to win, despite having got Karjakin's autograph at Hastings when he was 13, thinking that he might be world champion one day. I saw somewhere that the expected score is 59% - 41% to Carlsen, of course, that means that if one of them is havi...
