Re: Stale Chess (variant idea)

I really don't get the movement towards making chess different, if for the reason of opening theory? I mean, really, perhaps at the highest level, and even then based on the games I have played through in the last 6 months from the strongest tournaments, there have been rich middle-games and endgame...

Re: English Players qualified for FIDE Title (FM, WFM, CM, WCM)

well, my intention was not to cheat when I asked FIDE to take me from the list,. I had asked the BCF/ECF at the time also and they said they couldn't do that...which I found rather strange at the time.

Re: English Players qualified for FIDE Title (FM, WFM, CM, W

Plus my K factor is rubbish, so better to try and start again...no? If this means you were intending to defraud the FIDE rating system by reappearing as a new player, it may not have been a wise move to tell the whole world about it in advance. Re: Quarter Final Draw

Bedfordshire played Cornwall a couple of years ago at Weston super Mare - even Bristol is not half way :( It is a shame about the low number of entries for the Open. It seems that counties, or their regional unions, would rather play in the Minor Counties than try their luck at the higher level - s...

Re: English Players qualified for FIDE Title (FM, WFM, CM, W

However, perhaps Kevin or Lawrence can let me know if I do qualify for a title of some kind and what the requirements (and cost) would be...might help for coaching purposes. Regards and please message me about any chess matter, including Stan Vaughan who I knew for a couple of years. Hammondo Welco...

Re: English Players qualified for FIDE Title (FM, WFM, CM, W

I don't think Andy Hammond is playing much (if at all). Last time I spoke to him, (about a year ago) he said he might give up. He might also have raised FIDE's ire by playing in Stan Vaughan's "World Championship". FIDE told Aronian he could not accept an invitation to try to take Vaughan's world t...

Re: Players getting stronger with age

well, after being a lazy git most of my adult life, I consider myself stronger than I was 18......However, I do believe the only restraint to maintaining and improving is motivation....not so much to do with dwindling brain cells, perhaps at a very high level, but not at the 200 level rating level.....
