Re: Which Clubs are Reopening ?

Fenton Chess Club in North Staffs have been playing outside throughout the pandemic - often with extra warm clothing and with our umbrellas up !! We have now been open indoors for the past 3 weeks.

Re: Grade File Checker

Problem solved !! Howard Grist, the author of the program, suggested that I delete the 2 .INF files as they are re-created when you run the program. Did this and everything now working ok.

Re: Grade File Checker

Nothing wrong with my Windows 10 installation and I have encountered the same problem when attempting to run it on several other Windows 10 machines. I have also run it with the Excel installed box both checked and unchecked.

Re: Grade File Checker

With regard to some of the earlier replies - Yes, I have Excel 2007 installed and Yes, I have downloaded the latest Club and Master Files. None of this has made any difference to my problem. I have also tried it on several other Windows 10 PC's and all of them gave me the same problem. Luckily I hav...

Grade File Checker

Does anybody else have the same problem that I am experiencing? I am running a 64Bit Windows 10 system and when I run my Excel grading file (generated by the League Mgt System) through the grade checker program I keep getting "Error 91 - Object Variable Or With Block Variable Not Set". When I run th...

Re: ECF Grading Proposals

The very first line in the ECF statement on the website actually says 'The ECF Board is responding to changes in the expectations of both members and potential members'. This would imply that existing members have been contacting the Board to say 'I'd really like to see my grade updated every month'...

Re: ECF Grading Proposals

The ECF claim that they are responding to the expectations of existing and potential new members. Well I know hundreds of chess players and none of them have an expectation that includes monthly grading !!

ECF Grading Proposals

Does anybody have any thoughts about the proposed changes to the grading system in 2020 ? In my opinion, monthly grading just adds another layer of confusion. Who does it really benefit ? Most organisations use the July/August list for their competitions, and the January list for those without an of...

Re: Chester-le-Street 18th August - 20th August 2017

I'm providing a link to it on my North Staffordshire & District Chess Association website - http://www.northstaffschess.com. However, it clashes with the Manchester Summer Congress so unlikely to attract any entrants from this part of the country.

Re: Is Merseyside leaving the NCCU?

Unfortunately apathy also prevails at County level, not just Union level. Staffordshire find it impossible to get volunteers to run County teams as, I'm sure, do other Counties. Clubs, Leagues and Counties are reliant on volunteers and, unfortunately, it is the same small handful of people who do ev...

Re: Is Merseyside leaving the NCCU?

As a member of a club in Staffordshire I have no particular gripe about the NCCU. All I would say is that you could replace the name NCCU with MCCU and your comments would pretty much reflect how we feel a bit further South !!! Be interesting to hear what people have to say about the other Unions.
