Re: ECF Grading Database website URL links

You can get a better looking page by using the 'bookmark' facility on the ECF Database page: http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/new/menu.php?file=glist&?&file=glist&?=&Code=7008 Having done that, clicking the the column heading 'Standard' will sort the players into grade order (ascending). A second click...

ECF Grading Database website URL links

Hello, I am trying to obtain an URL link which would list all active Ashtead Chess Club players in standard grade descending order. The best I came up with is http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/new/glist.php?Code=7008&Club=Ashtead#top but as it would seem I am getting all of the players and not sorted by ...

Re: Personal Chess Manager

Thank you for your replies. I thought that it could be convenient to some to use the device as a scoresheet (the main benefit being electronic transfer of the games to a computer for analysis, etc., though a DGT board would be a better choice for me personally) if there would be a simple and reliabl...

Personal Chess Manager

May I ask if Personal Chess Manager is certified by ECF and if it not if there is any chance to consider a certification of such a device? Thanks. P.S. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MonRoi

Re: ECF grades compared with FIDE ratings

"Elo suggested scaling ratings so that a difference of 200 rating points in chess would mean that the stronger player has an expected score (which basically is an expected average score) of approximately 0.75." Approximately is the key word. The Elo scale is approximately 75%, the ECF scale is exac...

Re: ECF grades compared with FIDE ratings

P.S. 'FIDE2 - FIDE1 = 8 * (ECF2 - ECF1)' holds for 'FIDE = 8 * ECF + 650' but not for 'FIDE = 7.5 * ECF + 700'. For 'FIDE = 7.5 * ECF + 700', 'FIDE2 - FIDE1 = 7.5 * (ECF2 - ECF1), which again, if by definition it must hold that 'FIDE2 - FIDE1 = 8 * (ECF2 - ECF1), may indicate that 'ECF2 - ECF1' is l...

Re: ECF grades compared with FIDE ratings

Might I remark that 'FIDE2 - FIDE1 = 8 * (ECF2 - ECF1)' by definition, and that 8 is 8 and cannot be anything else but 8. "Elo suggested scaling ratings so that a difference of 200 rating points in chess would mean that the stronger player has an expected score (which basically is an expected averag...

Re: ECF grades compared with FIDE ratings

P.P.S. Please note that 'f(ECF) = 700 - 0.5*ECF' in 'FIDE = 8*ECF + f(ECF)' may indicate that ECF grades are stretched in comparison to FIDE ratings, as 'f(ECF) = 700 - 0.5*ECF' decreases with ECF, i.e., as one artificially shrinks the FIDE ratings with '- 0.5*ECF', in order to achieve a better fit,...

Re: ECF grades compared with FIDE ratings

Thank you very much for letting me know the formula. I will use it. :) You need not to worry, I think, about 'FIDE = 7.5*ECF + 700' formula not having factor 8, as mathematically you can write it as 'FIDE = 8*ECF + f(ELO)', where 'f(ELO) = 700 - 0.5*ECF', so you may claim that you have kept the fact...

Re: ECF grades compared with FIDE ratings

If '8*ECF + const = FIDE' does not work then perhaps '8*ECF + f(ECF) = FIDE' could be used where 'f(ECF)' is some function of ECF, as, as far as I am aware of, the factor 8 is exactly how FIDE and ELO scales differ, by definition. "Élo (originally) suggested scaling ratings so that a difference of 2...

Re: ECF grades compared with FIDE ratings

Please allow me to remark that the formula must be of the form '8*ECF + const = FIDE', i.e., the factor 8 is exactly 8, as that is by a definition (please see the details at http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=22&start=547 and at http://www.jurjevic.org.uk/chess/grade/blog/grading_anomalie...

Re: GRADING ANOMALIES

Hello Greg, Sorry for the delayed reply. Robert, have you heard back from anyone at the ECF about your proposals? Yes, there were some ECF officials keen to bring the "grading anomalies" (and my proposed solution, i.e., ÉGS6 ECF grade calculation method) to attention, but I haven't got any feedback...

Re: Shouldn't the ECF membership and grading season be the s

Robert, I take it you're looking after the submission of results for Ashtead CC. Can I suggest you contact Richard Haddrell (rjh@sccu.ndo.co.uk) for information on results submissions? Richard is the ECF's Grading Administrator. Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I will contact Mr Richard Haddrell (a...

Re: Shouldn't the ECF membership and grading season be the s

May I ask if there is a spec on the format of the file? Thanks. I wouldn't know about a spec, but an actual example (Bristol league data) can be found at http://www.chessit.co.uk/Results/2011-2012/BristolLeague.txt . Thanks! :) I think that I understand something. ;) Will pass it to Neil Hayward. M...
