Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal

There appears to be plenty of OTB tournaments taking place across Europe before Xmas according to the FIDE Calendar. Be careful. It may be the case that a lot of these tournaments have been cancelled, but the cancellations are not reflected on the FIDE website. See my post on Page 32 of this thread...

Re: Media comments on chess

The list includes the much fuller material in the book. I can send you that list, but I will require your email address. It is too bulky for a carrier pigeon to convey it. You could buy 'Chess in the Movies' by Bob Basalla online. 'Chess in the Movies' by Bob Basalla online. £50 - £80 when I had a ...

Re: Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2021

Some of the Dutch current restrictions: Public meetings of more than two people from different households are banned and museums, theatres, cinemas, zoos and amusement parks are closed. Looks like the tournament may have to be a closed GM event - No amateur sections. Anybody have any more informati...

Thanks Paul for the 'further documentation'. I now see just how serious a problem this was.

Re: Should the ECF try to organise more chess?

So when would you hold the British, or do you do a US style event? Its more than likely "The British" will not run as planned next year. ....this has the potential to move the competition, especially the large junior events online. & moving them back to OTB events may be quite difficult. Open to su...

More pertainantly, are there any examples where the virus transmission can be attributed to contaminated chess pieces, boards, pens, scoresheets or clocks? Yes An interesting article: Het coronavirus heeft nu ook zijn intrede gedaan in de schaaksport. Tijdens een toernooi in het Italiaanse Alfie he...

Re: Should the ECF try to organise more chess?

The usual expectation is that the British takes place during the school holiday period. Maybe its time to move forward ....& move away from the rather old fashioned, holding the Championship's during the "Summer Academic Break". So when would you hold the British, or do you do a US style event? Its...

Although this was only the first time I was tested this was 100% my third time having corona virus....my first two times were well documented on this forum back in March....I have deleted many of those posts as a chess colleague has since died a few weeks after those posts. I can assure anyone read...

Re: Membership Renewal

Would you speculate why that might be? Would it be that continued government restrictions make it impossible or at best unattractive to organise events in the usual manner? Or is it that enforced inactivity will have provoked a mass retirement from active play? A mixture of both. Up to 24 months of...

Re: Should the ECF try to organise more chess?

I think that the key point is being able to run the British OTB in 2021. If we cannot then we may lose members not online. Looking at the current situation in the UK .......I will be very surprised if the British OTB in 2021 takes place as planned. Optimistically, re-scheduled for later in the year...
