Re: Membership Renewal

Clubs, Congress Organisers, the ECF: ....may have to accept that OTB Chess will miss not just one season, but could take up to 5 years to recover. Would you speculate why that might be? Would it be that continued government restrictions make it impossible or at best unattractive to organise events ...

Re: British Championship Congress 2021

This has been announced as being back at Torquay. That's presumably provided it again becomes legal to hold chess events where players physically meet. https://www.britishchesschampionships.co.uk/british-chess-championships-2021/ Looking at the current situation, I would not be surprised if the Bri...

Re: Membership Renewal

I've noticed that some club officials hold a personal opinion (e.g. "I do not play online chess") and they believe that members of their club should hold the same opinion i.e. they can be selective about what they pass on to their membership. Communications become throttled at this point. I am awar...

What role is there for the ECF? Or for that matter Chess Scotland and the Welsh Chess Union.
A very good question.

Re: Membership Renewal

Right now I can't, in good faith, encourage my league players to be Bronze members on the basis that there might be some OTB chess to play in. I wouldn't want to feel that the clock is ticking and I have to organise something before the end of the season, regardless of whether it's safe. To the arg...

I wonder if the Russian state gave any thought to a chess cheating program, but perhaps gave up on the idea as more trouble than it was worth?
Perhaps you should read "The KGB Plays Chess".

Re: Membership Renewal

i think they will published something before the AGM as no one know how covid will effect the ECF and now after boris announcement today, i don't think OTB will happen now in 2020!! Sadly I expect an entire season to be lost, & even a delay to the 2021-2022 Season. Many clubs will cease to exist in...

Re: Membership Renewal

In my home town of Lancaster the venue for the club remains closed with no signs of reopening. Is it still the Reform Club? Slightly surprising that hasn't reopened tbh. Looked very closed today. Even the sign for Lancaster Chess Club has been removed. Lancaster Chess Club does have a website. http...

I think the Spa Complex is owned by the council.
A decent venue, much improved since they fixed the lighting a few years ago.

Re: Scarborough Congress

Scarborough seems to have become more prominent on the Covid modelling recently, with a 85% chance it turns into a Covid hotspot (above 50 cases per 100,000 people) on the 20th September. I guess the Council made the right call. Possibly the financial future of the Spa Complex may have also been a ...

Current Gold Member as well .....just being optimistic that the ECF would share some up to date information with its members. Well, I've paid £39 of that for 2020-21 Current Gold Member as well .....just being optimistic that the ECF would share some up to date information with its members. There is no need to be sarcastic ... Sarcasm not intended. I just have this feeling that no chess OTB at club level, has the potentia...

Re: Membership Renewal

Every organisation "needs a minimum level of funding to remain viable." The question is, what is the ECF's minimum: £1? £100,000? Something in-between? I think its normal budget is closer to £160,000. Well, I've paid £39 of that for 2020-21 Current Gold Member as well .....just being optimistic tha...
