The French System

Over this weekend I have had the chance to discuss how strong juniors and professional players are supported in France from someone who knows first hand. There are at least two streams as follows : 1. The French Federation has appointed Etienne Bacrot to oversee their Excellent Programme. In the Exc...

1 Nf3 Nf6 2 Ng1 Ng8. 3 Nc3 Na6 4 Nb1 Nb8. 5 Nh3 Nc6 6 Ng1 Nb8. 7 Na3 Nh6 8 Nb1 Ng8, The games is drawn by 5-fold occurrence of position. They didn't even have to claim a draw by repetition - although they could have done. Of course, it should be a double default for bringing the game into disrepute...

But is not one of the most important cheating methoDs still COLLUSION? Two players, in the last round, ensure that one of them wins. Thus gettin more money than a draw would have yielded for both players. That is why 3/1/0 was never encouraged.
Are pre-arranged draws examples of collusion ?

Re: World Youth Championships

Yet another Rapidplay that could be FIDE-rated that isn't. When are the FIDE Arbiter courses in England planned for in 2020 ? Why does that matter? Being an ECF Level 1 Arbiter is good enough, and as you know, the next one of those is in a few weeks. OK, I can run a FIDE rated rapidplay witho...

Re: World Youth Championships

The cap was worn I'm reliably informed. If this is true I am absolutely gobsmacked It is not clear if it was worn with brim facing forward, rearwards or at "jaunty angle" which I'm told conveys a degree of "coolness". If I was to wear a hat during chess it would be something like : 7915e24b5256424e...

Re: World Youth Championships

Take a look at https://www.chess.com/live/game/3493835645?username=declanlovelock DLs accuracy is calculated at a mere 99.6% whereas his hapless 1930 opponent managed a trifling 66.2 % The question is what happened to the .4 % ? Bad day at the office ? By way of contrast we have : https://www.chess....

Consistency of Tie-Breaking Methods ?

This could be my dullest post ever...

is there any consistency at all up and down the land in the sequence of methods use to resolve ties in Swiss paired events ?

Are there any guidelines from FIDE or the ECF or the CCA ? :D

Thanks for any help.

Re: Badge

I assumed this was a post about a track by the popular beat combo "Cream" What badge is this ? The one that the ECF have posted to "esteemed chess colleague" thanking the recipient for "whatever organisational role they play in supporting the ECF" Shouldn't that be E steemed C hess F ellow? Re: Division 4 South - 2019-20

There are Chiltern League U150 matches this Saturday which will probably have impacted the Oxford squad and others. I had an invite to play for Hampshire and replied to the captains to the effect that who on earth would schedule county/Chiltern League matches on a 4NCL weekend? Of course I knew the...
