Re: A demand for the Presidents resignation.

>>The chess analogy would be a "retired" IM or GM. I think you would reduce the duties of the President to a non-executive role and leave running of the ECF to the CEO, the paid staff and the other directors. It is normal practice in public companies to have a non-exec board chairman.<< Hmmmm, how ...

Re: ECF web site : facelift badly needed

The ECF web site must be overhauled : it is embarrassing. This is not the fault of the current web manager by any means : I suspect it was inherited and has grown out of control. First impressions are very important and the corporate and big money audience will not be impressed. The ECF web manager...

Re: ECF web site : facelift badly needed

I wonder if this post is a symptom of the new vs the old that seems to be causing a raging argument on these forums. My limited understanding of Web2.0 seems to be summed up in the comparison between the Encyclopedia Britannica and Wikipedia ie Web2.0 involves the user much more and where the web s...

I have searched the ECF web site to discover who, if anyone, is the ECF Press Officer.

I am none the wiser.

Director of Marketing : Candidates?

Being in a provocative mood I would like to invite nominations for the post of Director of Marketing and make some radical suggestions.... This post must be filled by a marketing professional who wants to put chess on the sporting and other maps in England. This must be full time salaried (by the EC...

Re: When is it bad manners to play silly openings?

The Board six game from 4NCL, Div 4, Round 11 between AMCA Dragons and Athenaeum went

1. e4 e5 2. Sf3 f6?! :D

at which point I felt a need to laugh a great deal expecting 3. Se5:! but White played 3. d4 and went on to win in any case.

Re: Resignation Rumours

Tell you what, get Sir Alan in to fire all the incompetents, and sort it out for us. That's the only way I can see any good come of this farce now... Nigel, Which particular items of the AMSTRAD product line do you consider to be their finest? I was trying to recall anything that they produced that...

From the ECF site : I am sorry to inform you that I am resigning, with immediate effect, from the post of Manager of Congress Chess. This is to preserve my remaining health. Will Gerry Walsh engage in this dialogue?

Does anyone feel it might be appropriate for Gerry W. to discuss these issues with the great unwashed who inhabit this and other forums?

Maybe the ECF Press Office (is there such a post?) would like to say a few words?

Re: Resignation Rumours

Roger, How are the perils of these very difficult to overcome logistics dealt with in lands with compulsory membership such as USCF, France and others? Do their tournaments always start late whilst organisers check membership IDs or have they possibly dealt with this non-issue? Maybe they show their...
