I gather RDK has now found God. I wonder how many others might have spotted this before me.
Funny how many of a certain age do that, especially if they think they might have things to answer to the Almighty for ;)

Re: Harassment and Toxic Behavior on Chess.com

However, there has to be a border between innocent banter and offensive language, and not everyone will agree on where it is. Agreed but I think common sense plays a big part here. Even innocent banter can offend some people so it makes sense to reserve it for occasions when, perhaps just being in ...

Re: Anne Sunnucks/Mothersill (1927-2014)

IIRC she was (as with CHO'D Alexander back in the day) not allowed to play in the USSR due to a "politically sensitive" occupation.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/03/01/chairman-board-not-quite-sir-richard-branson/?li_source=LI&li_medium=li-recommendation-widget Just another story about a board the wrong way round. It makes Branson look like a twerp, and we don't mind that, but otherwise I've never really understood what...

Re: Chess & Bridge Withdraw Ray Keene's Book from Sale

BTW, does anyone know what the latest is on chessgames (the website)? Is it still being administered on an interim basis, or is it on a more stable long-term footing again? It's still being updated with games. 1777 games dated 2019 for example. The new administrator is doing their best, but you get...

What's the difference between chopping off a knight and eliminating it?
The former is just a more "expressive" way of saying the latter.

Re: Enforcing rules in League chess

Of course, some of us who tend to record our games messily and at times incoherently are at an advantage here - as we got into the habit of using scoresheets, and then writing the game up legibly and correctly into a scorebook later, many years ago :) I have a backlog of four years' worth of games ...

Re: Enforcing rules in League chess

I was involved in a league match recently where one of the opposition players, drafted in for AFAIK their first ever serious game, said they weren't going to write the moves down because "they didn't know how to". Of course we could have claimed the point by default according to the rules, but our p...

Re: Enforcing rules in League chess

I would imagine the use of scorebooks is still fairly common in club/league chess. (and was only outlawed fairly recently in congresses I think?) Of course, some of us who tend to record our games messily and at times incoherently are at an advantage here - as we got into the habit of using scoreshe...
