Re: Random Ratings Everywhere

If they want more English games rated then FIDE will need to find regulations to conform to the law variations agreed by the ECF Council.

Re: Elo rating issue

Nick and Roger,

Thanks for the comments. I now see 12.3 of the FIDE rating regulations should have alerted me. Furthermore the USCF have a restriction, loosely described as 800/games played, and ChessScotland sets K as 800/n.

I shall go away and see if this revelation (to me) matters.

Elo rating issue

I'm hoping that someone with a mathematical back ground and Elo methodology can check out my maths attached. This comes from an investigation of national rating systems using Elo. There are a number of variations from FIDE for new entrants and improvers. I have been fumbling through some theory whic...

Re: The January Grading List is out!

If the every game is listed, with a 2015 date, with the correct opponent and result then the calculation will be correct. Our priority is to give this basic information for review. It's not perfect and there are improvements in the pipeline. What convention is supposed to be followed for events suc...

Re: The January Grading List is out!

All the games are listed for all years back to 2003-4! It's split in the traditional way from when we only produced one list a year. Yep I get that. On the grading list it says for me last 12 months 68 games graded. Click on the link next to it and it only shows those to July. So you then have to m...

Re: ECF Grading database website

Hi David,

The easy answer is that It's because we have not graded them yet. The calculations will take place during the 4th week of this month, but because of technical issues may not get onto the website, although new grades will.

IM Jack Rudd » Sun Jan 03, 2016 10:54 am The difference between those federations and Wales is that Wales is probably the most likely foreign federation for English players to play in, and it's also a federation whose disputes have come up a number of times on this forum. Surely Scotland is the mor...

Re: Increment Time Controls in Leagues ?

Slightly off topic, but something happened on a digital clock last night that has never been seen on an analogue. In away game digital clocks were clearly set for the first league time control. Absolutely no problem till my opponent started thinking about his sealed move (I know!). After a few minut...

Re: Grading games where the scoreline does not total 1

Hi Michael, I agree with your views about such results as ½-1 that they do contaminate the grading system. The Graders do discourage awarding such results. However as the January 2013 issue shows we are mere mortals and therefore have no higher authority than those who are present when these decisio...

Re: ECF arbiting at Aberystwyth - FIDE perspective

I don't think the game should be ECF graded unless both players agree .. I don't think anyone would want another layer of arbitration on top of those that have already been seen in this case! Graders grade games submitted by organisers (with some responsibility to check for administrative error). O...
