Re: Practical Issues with Implementing ECF Membership

At the moment we pay Game Fee direct to the ECF once a year, adjusted to take into account more or less games than was quoted the previous year. I don't see why we need to get involved under the membership scheme. It is an individual membership scheme after all. For us it is more complicated because...

Re: Practical Issues with Implementing ECF Membership

Leagues are going to have to consider the extent to which they frame rules which ban non-members from playing for financial reasons. A three game concession makes a difference to how stringent the rules need to be. Speaking as a League Secretary of a relatively small independent league, I run the l...

Re: A new twist on mobile Phones.

Mr Porter You have been trotting this out every so often for some time now. This is the last time I am going to comment (no matter what you say afterwards) This all started with a dispute involving a mobile phone and Enfield CC during the 2009-10 season. A complaint was made to me and I as NCCL Secr...

Re: Conduct of Parents

Obviously don't know that the selection is like at this event but having eaten some hotel/bar food I have total sympathy with the parents

Re: How weak can a player get?

I was floating around the 130-145 margin before I started to look at the suppliment regime linked to eating more sensibly.

Then I went 137 - 154 - 167 - 171 at the age 43 - 46
Must have done something right

Re: Tournament dispute from several years ago

"We feel it is significant that Security requested Mr Cook to leave the building. They would hardly have done that if they had witnessed an assault on Mr Cook. We are left with the conflicting accounts from the two individuals involved." They did indeed ask me to leave (quite nicely by the way), but...

Re: Tournament dispute from several years ago

The fact that much of Enfield's defense was based on the assumption that the evidence to which your husband referred actually existed and also that the appeal committee's final decision is taking years rather than days confirms the correctness of that decision. As the person referred to as "your hu...

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

, be it the woman's boards in county chess and at 4NCL Gary To be factual about it, there is no woman's board requirement in County Chess. There was a proposal once , that there should be, or that female presence should influence a tie break in your favour. As far as I am aware, there was no suppor...

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

Maria As soon as you create incentives and titles purely for 50% of the population what you are doing is creating or reinforcing an artifical barrier between the two sexes in chess. Many other sports men have a natural advantage in strength making it impractable for women to compete on the same foot...

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

I still haven't heard any of you suggest anything positive to do for women's chess, but just continue to personally get at me. If this isn't discouraging for women, I don't know what is. The first question to ask is whether the current approach of saying to women that you are expected to be weaker ...

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

As I said, if anyone else has any other better ideas for promoting women's chess, then please let me know. If you are against women's chess then please don't post, as this is a women's chess section and if you are not interested then you shouldn't be in this section. Sabrina Only having people who ...

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

Under representation of women in chess is an age-old problem, one where I don't think anyone has identified the root cause. Sean's idea of encouraging more women into the tournament scene, will do one of two things (or more likely bits of both) - 1. bring new women into chess; 2. bring more current ...
