Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

Louise, this sounds extremely bitter that you haven't won a title. Perhaps if you had, you would be less against womens chess :) If there is one thing that Louise has always been very clear about and that is her aversion to these 2nd class titles. At one tournament she refused a cash prize she had ...

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

As I said earlier why would lower (no) entry fees encourage more women to play than if they had had to pay the normal (men's) entry fee?
If this did encourage more women then the only thing you could take from it is that they want the chance to play subsidised chess.

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

GMs are given free entry/incentives because they are GMs and as such bring the tournament some prestige, unfortunately the same cannot be said of women (unless of course they are GMs as well) - all you are saying is that they are lesser than the men that enter and in need of some assistance

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

This assumes that the reason they don't enter is because they don't want to pay the entry fee in the first place You wouldn't see GMs and IMs at tournaments if you didn't give them free entry, so free entry is an incentive of sorts to enter. What other drivers are there as well for women, I don't k...

I do hope for the organisers sake that the tournament wasn't full of women, wouldn't make the bottom line very pretty!

They have been "trained" to think that way so will obviously object to paying.

Re: Women's In-Tournament Training

At the end of the day positive discrimination is still discrimination if you are one of the ones that is being negatively impacted. Positive discrimination tries to balance out discrimination by using the same process that it is trying to eliminate and is doomed for that reason. What needs to be und...

Re: A new twist on mobile Phones.

try and get the dispute mediated somewhere else There is no mechanism to appeal against the NCCL's refusal to implement the rulings of its appeal committee. I am however not willing to ignore reiterated commitments by the NCCL which are not implemented as any casual reader might suppose that they h...

Re: A new twist on mobile Phones.

Mr Porter - the NCCL have an appeals process which Enfield CC used - so I am not sure what you are talking about us having no process. At the recent AGM the clubs agreed to refine this process even further. If you had bothered to attend the meeting you would have known what happened but you decided ...

Joey
You are quite correct, though in this case it is one person against the rest of the League, so weight of numbers might hold a clue. I have had notification from this person's previous club and they say that his comments do not reflect their views.

Re: A new twist on mobile Phones.

It is so interesting to see the comments of one who was not there ... Not happy with having a go at me as Secretary he now decides to insult all of the other clubs, via their representatives at the AGM. The changes to the rules were debated at length and all the clubs agreed that the changes made se...

The biggest problem is not when they are concentrating on the game as afterwards when they are busy analysing. Unfortunately it is not a large room so the noise travels.
I do like the Norwegian idea!
