Re: April 2009 Council Meeting : Details

I'm disapointed there's been no word of public apology or explanation r.e the £8000 overspend for the British Championships 08. Seems like they're hoping that by making very little reference to it the issue will be swept under the carpet and forgotten about.

Re: Update on Project?

From the sccu report of the last ECF meeting: "Chris Majer and David Anderton had had a meeting on Tuesday, their second we believe, with the new Executive Chairman of Holloid. We won't report everything they told Council, in view of Holloid's wish to handle publicity themselves (a press release is ...

Re: April 2009 Council Meeting : Details

think that it will all be ok if they put up the cost of membership massively (by up to 25% for standard members) and put up game fee by twice the rate of inflation (6%). Not saying I have any more business sense then the people who came up with this, but one would assume that putting...

Re: Nigel Short wishes Gerry Walsh 'Merry Xmas & Begone!'

Going back to the point about the British. I think it's good that there are a lot of qualifying places up for grabs through congresses etc, as it does make entering congresses a more attractive proposition for players graded around the 170-190 mark, who might be too strong for grading prizes, but no...

Re: Nigel Short wishes Gerry Walsh 'Merry Xmas & Begone!'

Firstly, pleased to confirm I am a person and not a hair cosmetic. How a hair cosmetic might type his views in on here, not quite sure, but it's somewhat beside the point. What has Gerry Walsh done wrong/badly as ECF president that effects the average club player? The list is long, historically deta...

Re: Nigel Short wishes Gerry Walsh 'Merry Xmas & Begone!'

I imagine if I spoke to club members in my area about how they viewed Gerry Walsh's presidency, probably about half wouldn't know who Gerry Walsh is, and a large majority of people who do know who he is (myself included) would be satisfied as long as the game fee doesnt rise too steeply. 2 questions...

http://www.englishchess.org.uk/organisation/general/reg2-directors-officers-responsibilities.htm "The responsibilites of the President....acts as a focal point for the concerns of members and chess players generally" Also, and possibly I'm being a bit simple here, but if some of the people pos...
