Re: Which Candidate Should the ECF Support in the FIDE Presidential Election? (Take 2)

Wonder if all the organisations that were supporting Nigel were aware of his intentions?

I notice that the only Singaporean player to avoid defeat against Turkey today was WGM Qianyun Gong. Are there any other women playing in the Open?
There are a few, at least one playing top board I think?

(unfortunately I forget who that is)

Re: Batumi Olympiad

Have to say (no sarcasm) seeing the likes of Germany- Myanmar, Russia- Ireland etc is a very welcome change from seeing Carlsen, Karjakin et al play each other every other week.

Re: Batumi Olympiad

Interesting board order from Seychelles open team. Not sure you'd get away with that at NCL.

Re: Election Addresses for 2018 AGM

Hi Tim. One member from a chess club in Somerset wrote to me a while ago, firstly mentioning about declining numbers of people who play in clubs (which I'm pleased you've written about in your address), and secondly about the number of BAME participants in chess activites. Have you any thoughts abou...

Re: English Women's Championship 2018

Is the second one 13......f5!? Yes - the game continued 13...f5 14.Nxf5 Bxf5 15.Bxf5 Nxc2+ 16.Bxc2 Rxf3 17.gxf3. Material is level but black has a clear advantage as white will find it difficult to develop properly and find a safe haven forher queen. However, with stubborn defence the game isn't ov...

Re: English Women's Championship 2018

I've got the second one of your puzzles fairly easily, the first took me far longer then it probably should have, and even now I'm not 100% sure of myself.

Re: British Championship 2018

When did today's round start? I thought it was same start time as the other rounds. From the sounds of things I've missed most of the action.

Re: 2018 World Championship in London?

Just received an email from Worldchess, as follows. £45- £100 seems a bit too expensive, especially if you have to travel from a decent distance away. Imagine if you go, they blast out a load of pre- prepared theory, then agree a draw inside a couple of hours? See the bit I quoted above about ticke...

Re: 2018 World Championship in London?

Just received an email from Worldchess, as follows. We are very happy to announce The College, a breath-taking historic building in the heart of London as the venue for the FIDE World Chess Championship Match 2018! The 10,000-square foot space in Holborn will host 400 people each day to see Magnus ...

Re: Director of Women's Chess

I don't think the journalist who wrote The Telegraph article addressed any points that might've proved contrary to the views of the person he interviewed.

Re: Director of Women's Chess

It reads very much like they just took Amanda Ross' views and turned it into an article.
