Re: Director of Women's Chess

I'm not going to bother registering on the Telegraph site just to point out how incorrect that article is, but there's an 8 letter word for it. You can shorten it to BS if you like.

Re: Irish Championships 2018

Hi John, under notes on the flyer it says all entrants must be current members of the ICU. Is that correct for the second Weekender?

Re: 2018 Altibox Norway

Its the last round of a tournament in Norway, with Norwegian sponsorship, Norwegian tv coverage, and the Norwegian player Magnus Carlsen is in the joint lead of the tournament. Sure enough, he blitzes out 17 moves of preparation, gets the dullest possible draw, and the game is over in 20 minutes. Wh...

The June issue of Chess has just been published.

Anyone expecting mention of Nigel deciding to stand for FIDE President will be disappointed. Not a word.

Awesome
Malcolm has covered Nigel's candidature in his Daily Telegraph column.
What did he write?

Re: Preliminary & Quarter Final Results

Not entirely sure that Somerset have the number of players to be able to field a competitive team in any of the grade- limited sections. The teams we've fielded for our 2nd team match against Devon over a number of years (with a number of decent captains trying to raise teams, for what is very much ...

Re: Victory for the Dinosaurs

I prefer 4hr sessions. I think when your comments include "the ECF view the county Championship as just a low life 4ncl...." and "counties are choosing to degrade their own competition." then maybe you're just a little too passionate about an hour's extra time. In the SW we play 4hr sessions, no com...

Re: Women's World Championship

Today was the only game in the match I've really watched much of live, but have all of the games been of a similar quality to this one, or was this of a lower standard then a lot of the others? I don't want to sound too harsh (I know its easy to be critical when you're sat at home with a computer pr...

Re: Preliminary & Quarter Final Results

Besides, whats wrong with a 4hr session? 2hrs each thinking time for a game of chess is plenty.

Re: Preliminary & Quarter Final Results

Truro- Trowbridge= 3hrs+ each way, 350 mile round trip.

I'm guessing there were similar length journeys from parts of Surrey.

A 2pm start would've meant setting off 10.30/ 11am, getting home 9- 9.30pm at best.

I can't imagine there were many people there that wanted the chess to last an extra hour.

Re: Division Two 2017-18

My team owes Warwicks a drink or 2.West is Best 2 needed to match Kings Head or KJCA's results to stay up. My team lost, KJCA won, Kings Head were 3.5-2.5 up against Warwicks. And then we were saved :) :) :)

Re: ECF Finance meeting 2018

Thanks, always useful to see these reports. Can anyone give a more detailed report on the budget? Was the position on international spending raised? Apologies - I was late and missed the bit on International Spending, I was also asked by Warwick University to ask about details of ECF Academy spendi...

Re: ECF Finance meeting 2018

There was a lot of discussion on the International budget. A motion was passed along the lines of "Council requests the International Director provides a more thorough breakdown of the costs for the International teams at the Olympiad (appearance fees, travel etc)" Obviously it would be unfair to p...
