Re: The Secret of Chess

Finally, some advice I can use. :D

My whole opening system, with white at least, is devoted to "doing nothing".

Re: When is the new grading list coming out?

Some juniors do improve rapidly (I teach some of them at Wilsons). They play 30+ games a season. Those are the ones whose grades should be reset. I think there should be an upper grading bound on any resetting (and you might apply resets to "inexperienced" adults as well). It appears to be indicate...

Re: When is the new grading list coming out?

Thanks to improving my grade by nearly 50 to 141 I may be playing in the top division at my club.

Fingers crossed, eh? :D

On a side note, I clearly would have smacked 100 this year in old grades so it irks me the first time I do is in a devalued grading system.

Call me old fashioned, but maybe "would do a good job" should be part of the requirement.

"Previous experience in a similar role" would help too.

its great sportmanship in my book it shows he respects that conquest a gm and that he can mate like that and he ouplayed him so he hold his hands up and says i dont belive i should try to flag you the way you outplayed me in this postion means you derseve to win the game. You don't have a moral rig...

Exactly. :P

Maybe I should start wearing mine.

Plus, I may see the board better as well.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have a certain stereotypical image of chess players.

So when I see a certain type of opponent, I think "wow, he must be good".

Which may explain my appalling record vs players younger than me (=1 -2).

Patience, they'll be out when they're out.

Re: when should you resign a game?

Down material?
This depends on grading and position over the board.
No counterplay?
No drawing chances?

Resign.

Re: No High heels.......have a bath then.....

Yes.....you might well ask what the difference is between being bleeped by ring tones, or the sound of coke cans popping and fizzing...its all noise and distraction of sorts....but the latter incurs no penalty.....and the former is punished by instant loss, which in most cases rates as OTT, I belie...

Re: british champion Stu conquest loses in first round big shock

The full game is up on the championship site now ... looks like Keith got trapped in a mating net. Really? After 40...Kxg4 41. Nh6+ Kg5 I don't know what white can do. Maybe 41...Kxf4 is better. What am I missing? Nh6 is checkmate Doy! I just realised I was looking at whites pawns the wrong way rou...

Re: british champion Stu conquest loses in first round big shock

Apparently English Champion Keith Arkell has also resigned. However considering we're on the same move that apparently also caused his opponent to resign I think we should take this with a pinch of salt. Especially when we consider the position (after 21. Rc1), not that I claim to be an e...
