Re: Do you believe in God

Hello, Just over a year ago, I wrote to a philosophy email list called Chora, about the injustice being done to the memory of William Tyndale, that can be found here Last night BBC 2, via Melvin Bragg, went a long way, in righting an ancient wrong, by giving Tyndale his rightful place in the history...

If human beings were more logical, they would mess up a planet slower than they are doing so.

Ask your mouse
I don't have a mouse.

I have a Kensington trackball, please forgive my pedantry.

Re: Magnus Carlsen

I've long wondered about the connection between IQ and chess playing ability - how come my PC is more intelligent than I am?

Why is it that, Magnus Carlsen possibly the greatest chess player who ever lived, has less power than Rogoff?

Magnus Carlsen

Hello,

Because I admire the lad, I thought it was about time he had his own thread.
His official FIDE rating is 2868.
His unofficial live rating is 2871.8

It seems to me that 'unofficially' he is breaking the record again.

Or perhaps Ilyumzhinov thinks live ratings is the work of aliens.

Looks like Micky has Vishy on the ropes.

It is a tablebase win, so it is sort of 'in the bag'

Re: Media comments on chess

I suspect chess goes deeper when we realize, chess has 64 squares, in terms of 64 being an incredibly important number in terms of the mathematics of genetics, perhaps it interacts on a different level than we are aware of?

Re: Media comments on chess

Headline in the Telegraph 'North Korea: the chess match with a dim-wit continues.' The thing that upsets me is, ever since I was born in 1949, seeing a colossal waste of human resources, in terms of armaments and armed forces. Back in 2003, seeing people marching up the street, carrying placards say...

Re: Chess and class

Class is an extremely complex subject, a lot of language revolves around classifications. Of all things I find difficult in my amateur exploration of philosophy, I find the concept of identity the most difficult. There is who I think I am, there is who everyone else thinks I am, and there is who I r...

Carlsen today, bought his game against Gelfand to an end, with a flourish, like removing a rabbit from a hat.
