Re: President of FIDE

That doesn't mean it's a good idea, though; what is the overlap between the two skillsets that suggests to you that this is a go...

Re: Acceptable conduct

This goes in the direction of 'Darmok' the wonderful Startrek episode, in the 'Next Generation' series, that hints at what is wrong with most of the human world, we don't understand each others metaphors.

Australia and TV funding

One of my favourite modern philosophers is, Jeremy Bentham his war cry was, 'The maximum good, for the maximum number of people' who in terms of copyright, is not going to vote for that? I learned with interest today, that in Australia, they have something like the BBC, but no licence fee! Basically...

Re: DNA and chess

Perhaps he meant the way that the three base sequence in DNA gives 4^3=64 possible codons, more than enough for the 20 amino acids and the stop codons. Yeah you got me Neill. I left school at 15 not realizing I had a brain :) I'm given to understand the size of the human genome is 3.2Gb, with my li...

DNA and chess

Hello,

I've sort of thought for ages, there is something about chess and human conciousness that connects on a very deep level.

There is a deep connection between chess and DNA, that I don't think has been truly analysed yet.

Re: Carlsen - Nakamura

Carlsen's play is praised, but facts are that Nakamura played anti-positional chess. It was very, very bad. I don't like his style of play, which violates the positional laws of chess. Super-GMs should endeavour to play beautiful and sound games. http://en.chessbase.com/post/gashimov-r2-clear-leade...

Re: little

Hi. What does 'little' mean in: Clearly the weakest man on the board. the little pawn may seem unimportant. (from Play Winning Chess) ?Thanks in advance In English (as I should imagine, as are many other languages) we usually have two forms of speech, a literal meaning and a metaphorical meaning. S...

Probably the best place to start is, with the realisation that, chess is about logic and religion is about emotion.

Re: Sean Hewitt resigns

Peter, I've said that I thought that you might think you are the Lord. And, I was thinking that Andrew must have thought he was the Anointed of Council. What we need is inspiration... (The preacher is with us.) Give us a sign. Look how David Cameron has answered the question - how do you solve a pr...

Resists all temptation to join this arguefest, because if I do, I will get accused of thinking I'm Jesus.

Okay I confess, I have not resisted all temptations.

Re: Gradings to be published, on the sidebar?

I have a sort of grade, obtained on FICS, of between 1400 and 1500, only obtained after a beer or three, and no I'm not going to tell you my handle, unless I know you have had a beer also.

Re: Ukraine

I will add to this, even though, anything I add to anything, will probally vanish due to pollitical correctness.

There is a difference between wisdom and intelligence.

Intelligence to my collosal ignorance, appears to be about how, whilst to my cosmic ignorance, wisdom appears to be about WHY?
