Re: New 'New junior grades'

Neill,

I will agree with David's comment.

I will also add that any current master list will not really assist you as the calculations are currently under review, although I can say that having an under 145 grading limit is not going to exclude very many U14 players next season.

The grading results check will be sent out shortly - probably at the start of next week. Issues with the new grades have delayed things this year.

Re: amateur hour in the 4NCL FIDE grading.

I will point out that this problem with the 4NCL rating is the responsibility of the ECF International Rating Officer - Ray Ryan Foster - and that he is aware that there is a problem.

Re: Rough Guide to new grades

As a result of various comments made here I am re-examining the value of and application of junior increments. However, I have just performed a quick and simple analysis of the changes in grade last year of every junior in the grading database who had a grade in both years. It is clear at a glance t...

Re: Database Upgrade

However the central principle of the ECF grading system is that the pool of adult players is constant. Why? As this the central principle, I'm not sure that it can be 'explained'. However if it wasn't the case, you could not sensibly carry forward games played by players played over different seaso...

Re: Database Upgrade

I don't see why this is necessarily a disadvantage. What real value is there in being able to predict your grade, unless you intend to use it it order to manipulate the outcome? Personally I like to see how I'm doing during the season. In fact the entire system should be changed as follows: Step 1 ...

Re: Database Upgrade

is the junior bonus the same (for a particular age) regardless of whether the junior is improving or not? i.e. would a recreational player aged 13 get the same bonus as say Felix Jose Ynojosa-Aponte? Should the bonus be a function of the slope of their periodic performance change therefore? The jun...

Re: Database Upgrade

There have been two alterations made to the calculations of new grades for this database upgrade. Firstly, I was taking the grading performance of juniors including the junior enhancement over the period 2003-6 to be their performance over the same period without junior enhancement (e.g if an adult ...

Re: Incentives to become titled

Peter, It has long been the intention to create an International Rating page on the ECF web site and a list of title norms would be a good item to put on such a page. However, as this is still in the 'to be done' pile, the list hasn't gone much further than my computer - although Stewart Reuben and ...

Re: Incentives to become titled

You can, at least theoretically, see a list of FIDE title norms on the page http://www.fide.com/info/titles/title-norms , but in practice it is incomplete - for instance there are 11 IM norms listed for English players and I know of 38 being acheived. As far as U21s are concerned, as far as I'm awar...

Re: Hastings Rating Duplication

Is there a chance of Ray registering on this forum and coming online then Howard? That's down to him. I will say that if you have a query regarding the results of an event then this should be addressed to the event organisers and/or the ECF. You can hardly expect Ray, or anyone else for that matter...

Re: Hastings Rating Duplication

Richard,

The results supplied by the event arbiter, Alex McFarlane, state that you lost in the last round - even if the event web site and PGN say otherwise. You will need to contact Ray Ryan Foster about this if you have not already done so.

This is not the case. A game may be FIDE rated with two hours for each player. However, unless you are using an incremental time control, five hours IS the minimum for a game to count toward a FIDE title norm.
