Re: British Championship Congress 2019

Great result for Tom Villiers - Tom has an uncanny ability to induce blunders from strong opponents and it happened again today with Daniel Fernandez's 52...Kc5 ?? You are not kidding there, I played 4ncl in the same team as Tom one season and he managed to win 6 games from worse positions when his...

Re: British chess championship

Oh, well if it is hidden away in the dead zones of the forums then at least we now have a discussion page in the active area. I thought I would start with this- anybody know if there is live games being put online this year, I've had a look around and not seen anything yet (unfortunately the past Br...

British chess championship

I thought it only right and proper to start this thread, and steer us away from euro leaving talk to the real business of the year.

Re: What temperature / humidity is it too bad to play

It just shows how half assed our "legal system" is when they think that extreme heat is fine but slightly cold and you have to shut up shop completely (the unofficial bank holidays we now have every time a light dusting of snow happens spring to mind). Worse when there is some whinging anorexic who ...

Re: Chess and Pension Fraud - allegation

Osborne reforms That's a snorter  Just like in 1986 (I've been in pensions for longer than that), the changes to pensions take a long time to have a completely clear effect; there are people with poorer retirements now thanks to those, and they'll soon be people with poorer retirements thanks...

Re: Finals 13 July 2019 @ Kettering

Simple solution - the ecf purchase a set of cheap tablets, use the fide online arena as a "venue" and have the machines locked out of any app downloads or web browsers to avoid the cheating issue. l this allows the whole game to be played in an agreeable venue to the arbiter (since they will be the ...

Re: Finals 13 July 2019 @ Kettering

It was kind of a shame Devon was forced out of the competition, even though I've been on the recieving end of many Devon victories I'd have still give them my support for such a great achievement of a 'proper' minor county making it to the final.

Re: Arbitration question

Although I mildly dislike increments I would happily take them just to stop that sort of internet troll behaviour translating to real life - nothing better then to screw talentless clowns out of getting an unjust win on time

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

On the other hand I think we should be more worried about players intentionally losing points (sandbagging) to enter lower rated events. That problem isn't hard to stop, or at least mitigate. You specify that the rating taken in account will be the highest registered in the past year, or perhaps a ...

Re: Has anyone heard of kaoori.co.uk?

I had them contact me recently about putting links on my league website to advertise equipment at a discount - looks like they have been on a major marketing spree.

Re: 2019-20 Season

Madness.... they finally addressed that we have too many bank holidays in may (especially so close to easter that has another two) and their "fix" is to just move it to another day IN MAY !!

We all know that the interrogation will produce the following answer -

8 (pawns) + 6 (2 knights) + 7 (2 bishops) + 10 (2 rooks) + 9 (queen) + 2 (king) = 42!
We need an "upvote" feature for posts like this. Good one

Re: FIDE's 400pt rule

I remember saying this a while ago - give me 10 years and a willing supply of novice players and I could get my ecf rating over 300. It wouldnt be much of a help to me though, it is not as though I would suddenly receive a bunch of tournament invites and appearance fees since my play strength would ...

Re: Hastings Congress

It would be a shame to lose the Hastings Congress as it is such a huge part of English chess heritage, but £25,000 is a LOT of money, more then most businesses can afford to spare these days. I would personally have a crack at getting a big bookmaker to sponsor it - the are a few of them that take b...
