Re: Where does Mickey Adams Play online/

I think that is often the case with most players "wins" against strong opponents - when the surface is scratched away it turns out that actually the glorious victory was when the GM was 8, in a simul and suffering from a massive dose of flu.

Re: Problem with digital clock

It tends to be the see saw arm inside the clock falling out of line which causes this to happen (ever seen a wind up clock where both sides are running at the same time? That is what is going on there too). In a match situation I would have thought that the league would have some sort of stipulation...

Re: Where does Mickey Adams Play online/

If he likes blitz then ICC is likely going to be the place, though some grandmasters choose to remain anonymous there to avoid too much attention, so it could be hard to track him down. He does have a website ( http://www.michaeladamschess.co.uk/ ) where you might be able to write in to ask him pers...

Re: Tournament rounds

Maybe in a rapid event where a fire alarm went off 5 minutes into the first round, and by the time the players were back in the hall those who had taken a bye had now arrived for round 2.....

A situation like that would probably call for a repairing of round 1.

Old Adolf was a crafty one for thinking outside of the box....

P.S. This marks my 1000th post on the forum.

Re: New Study Finds Performance-Enhancing Drugs for Chess By Dylan Loeb McClain

One major omission I spotted was nicotine - I've had numerous games against opponents who seem to be really struggling with the position, nip out for a quick smoke, and return completely calm and collected playing far better moves then before... I would have liked to have seen that tested in a study...

Re: toughest mate in one puzzle

I like the first one. I am finding the more I look at these "hard" mate in two (or one, in this case) the less I tend to consider the obvious natural moves as the positions are almost always massive zugzwangs which require a very irrelevant looking move to force the other side to move a defender.

Re: Curious error message from ECF grading site

It is most probably the one service the ECF provides which is most used, I think there would be great approval if they took a year out of international competition and put all the saved money into improving the database. Not that it does not already have good information on it, or that those who hav...

Re: Now I've Seen Everything Dept - Scoresheets

Ohhh, thats what he is doing, I thought he was just using both sides of the scoresheet.

It would probably make a fun challenge to try and reconstruct the game based only on the white moves - I know there are players out there who would take that sort of thing on.

Re: What is your favourite Chess Website to Play Chess on?

I quite like the gamecube currency system, there is nothing better then playing a series against some low rated punk who is relentlessly trying to take my rating points and know that I am going to be making a profit even if he does manage his one win (and usually, running away with his ill gotten ga...

Re: Now I've Seen Everything Dept - Scoresheets

It is a pretty good effort for a first scoresheet - I have seen much worse attempts made to keep score by very experienced players.

Re: Curious error message from ECF grading site

While we are on the subject of "errors" does anybody else find it slightly annoying that when you now go to search a player name you have to manually delete the word 'search' before being able to type in. This was not there before, so I assume it has cropped up as some sort of oversight in the codin...

Re: Purposely creating an unbalanced game.

Inbalance probably gives the best chance of scoring a knockout blow, but you better be a good tactical player to be messing around like that because you have just stirred up a hornets nest and they might well have the bigger stinger!

Re: Definition of Super Grandmaster

It used to be an informal term for grand masters rated over 2600. It probably now should be applied to those over 2700 (not that 2600s are not very strong GMs, there are just too many of them now)

Re: Proposed British Chess Championship Qualifying Regulations

I am not able to see the proposal on the ecf website, the link just tries to download files to me (which I never accept from any website anywhere anymore) so could somebody sum up the key points - it sounds like there will be a new minimum rating to enter the main british but will there be the same ...
