Re: No news is bad news

I think the Streatham blog is known for many things, including accusing a respected English GM of plagiarism, withdrawing the comment when he was indignant, then sniping away now that he is no longer watching the blog. That inter alia.

Re: No news is bad news

Paul - of course you are right - the ECF will be blamed for this by the public, not its suppliers. Therefore, anyone who cares about chess in this country must hold the ECF management to account if this project fails. David - the Streatham blog is noted for its vanity and egotism. I wouldn't take th...

Re: No news is bad news

So far the "feud-monger" has proven remarkably prophetic. Wear the badge with pride, David!

Re: Obama Girl

Jack - love your contrib. - best response I guess. Ben - happy to say you're misinformed about Jack Jones. Ground Control to Major Tom. Ground Control to Major Tom. Now, Ben, why don't you go and put your helmet on. Strewth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge penned "Kubla Khan"! Now can we get back to the sub...

Re: Obama Girl

Anyway, after a welcome moderation by Carl, let's get this thread back on track.
What I'm searching for, is any good ideas to promote the popularity of chess in these isles?
Anyone?
Please!

Re: Obama Girl

Be respectful. Amber Lee Ettinger is a successful model and has never prostituted herself. She was chosen for the role of Obama Girl - it wasn't some wannabe's last desperate shout for fifteen minutes of fame, but the creative brainchild of an advertising bureau prepared to invest eighteen months of...

Re: Can Under 30's get on ECF council

Surely whether or not someone aged under thirty years of age should be running the ECF depends entirely on what they can offer in terms of energy, experience, organisation and communication. This is exactly what I would expect from someone over thirty, too. In which case, I think this poll is merely...

Obama Girl

I have the feeling that were Obama Girl to declare her undying lust in a scantily clad R&B number for Nigel Short, chess would still be regarded in Britain as boring. Am I unnecessarily pessimistic?

Re: No news is bad news

This is probably a totally off the wall suggestion, but here goes anyway...
If the problem turns out to be the ECF, could we go to Chess Scotland and use them as a vehicle for this? For our mutual benefit?

Re: No news is bad news

And anyway I thought that Holloid would produce them for free. Even if we only got 20 thousand sets rather than 250 thousand promised and had to pay a small amount for them, it still has to be worth doing.

Re: No news is bad news

Thanks Andrew. Would you be able to suggest the idea to Gerry and Peter? And get them to agree if we can produce enough volunteers. Otherwise this just drags on for ever...

Re: No news is bad news

And would someone in the know with the authority of the ECF be prepared to co-ordinate collection with Holloid, on these terms? Andy Martin, can I volunteer you? It would hardly be a thankless task, even if it involved some effort... Failing that Stewart Reuben, you also read this forum, ...?
