Re: any quotes, any global enviroment.

My favourite footie quote was by George Best:-
"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered"

Re: Default Times

I agree that defaulting a player for being late is over the top. Here are some suggestions for appropriate penalties for lateness. If one player is late, they should lose double the amount of time e.g. if you are 10 minutes late, you lose 20 minutes of your time. And if both players are late, they s...

Re: Default Times

[ Would you really want Oxford 3 to have won 3-0 without any games being played? The 4NCL are now at liberty to introduce such a rule and potential outcome. I believe they appreciate that hardly any players would participate under these conditions. The Sunday morning round is bound to suffer from p...

Re: Default Times

After playing in the 4NCL last Sunday, I see where FIDE are coming from. At the appointed time, none of the opposing team were present. Neither were 3 of my own team. This was by no means the only match affected by later arrivals. Apart from the gross discourtesy, this meant a continual hubbub of no...

Re: King and Knight v King and Knight

I agree that the K&N v K&N decision brings the game into disrepute. It is completely ridiculous.

Re: British Championships

Regarding the game Davies-Jones currently underway in Round 7, I'd be grateful if thes tonger players who visit this forum could explain why White played Bh1 rather than submit to the exchange of white-squared bishops? Is there anything more to it apart from a possibly unnatural attachment to the bi...

Re: Using ones own clock

With a digital clock, do you get any warning if the battery is running low?

Is this a record?

My grade has gone down from 168 in 2005 to 142 on 2008. That's 26 in 3 years. Is this a record? :(

Re: FIDE Rule 10.2 and "by normal means"

Wrt to digital clocks. I have played League Chess since 1973 but I've only used a digital clock a few times, and never with a Fischer time limit. Therefore, I would consider myself at a disdvantage compared to someone who has used them regularly and is familiar with Fischer time limits. I wouldn't e...

Re: Your 5 favourite books

I've read (and own) quite a few of the books mentioned, however I haven't read any of those listed by John Moore!

I hardly ever buy openings books any more, it's just not worth it for my standard of play and level of activity. What do other people think?
