Re: Membership Services

The ECF have negotiated a 20% discount for members who want to go to an important chess event. I'm sure a lot of people will be taking advantage of that. If I'd booked for it then found out about the discount later I would have been very disappointed that the ECF hadn't made sure I knew about it whe...

Re: ipad and chess?

Chessbase works well on the Nexus 7, as does Stockfish. I believe they are doing a 10" version as well now.

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

Have you consulted the rank and file in Yorkshire Roger? It does sound from postings on here that some people in Yorkshire would very much like to be part of the ECF with one grading system. Any competitive activity needs rules and procedures, so why use language like A body seeking to dictate the t...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

I would like to say that is enjoyable meeting new people at congresses and in County games and I would like to think that all these sort of problems could be ovecome and we could be one big Chess Family. So come on folks lets all get behind the ECF and try and give chess a head of steam. After all w...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

I do wonder if there might not be a compromise solution here of adopting the FIDE system of grading the league but ONLY GRADING THOSE GAMES PLAYED BY TWO MEMBERS. It's hard for players up there to try and change things when they may well be struggling just to find the time to play chess. By grading ...

Re: Another election

Let's give OMOV a try please! :| It would be good to vote in a committee and leave them to get on with things. I prefer the sort of model used in Golf Clubs where Officer Posts are voted on every year and Committee members are voted in for 2 year terms to give more continuity. If it's widely felt th...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

Ah I see. Let's not open old wounds then! Sounds good that a lot of Yorkshire players are now joining the ECF. A very positive step forwards.

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

Hm call me old fashioned but it still doesn't seem very good to me, unless of course all the people using the Yorkshire system are ECF members as well. Mind you looking at another thread it seems like they have found a way to do monthly updates. Perhaps the solution would be to put them in charge of...

Re: Advertising Clubs on Internet Chess Sites

I was thinking more along the lines of the internet sites where people actually play chess. Young people we are picking up as members all seem to be playing online and I'm wondering if there might be an untapped market there. It may be that all those who want to start playing OTB chess locally find ...

Re: Yorkshire vs ECF disparity

I imagine legal action would be the last thing the ECF would want at the moment. However, Yorkshires actions do seem questionable in this matter. Certainly not something to be proud of.
